(Minghui.org) Ms. You Liqin, 51, was put on trial again at the Jiaocheng County Court in Shanxi Province on November 19, 2013. Ms. You's attorney pleaded not guilty on behalf of Ms. You. There was no decision and the hearing was hastily adjourned.
Ms. You presented her case and said that in whatever a person does, heavenly beings are watching. Everything we do should be based on our moral and ethical standards and we should not do bad things. We should not create further karma, which we will have to pay for in the future. During the trial, the chief judge remained quiet, but one judge did ask questions.
Ms. You had also been taken to court at the Jiaocheng County Court on October 29, 2013. The attorney that Ms. You's family hired pleaded not guilty on behalf of his client. Zheng Chengyu, the judge and the public procurator had no questions and did not make any remarks. This trial was adjourned.
Latest Trial Faced by Ms. You Liqin
Ms. You was brought to court at 10:00 a.m. on November 19, 2013. Her relatives and friends, in total over twenty people, sat in the court to watch the trial.
She did not cooperate with the public procurator because she had not committed any crime and was a victim of circumstances.
The public procurator said that her attitude would affect the verdict. Her attorney said that the procurator's remark could be construed as being threatening. Also, this remark could be misinterpreted. It appears to tell his client to confess for a crime she didn't commit.
The public procurator read her husband's testimony and only finished half of it. The testimony spoke of frequent quarrels because of her practicing of Falun Gong. Then, her husband told the public procurator, “You cannot quote me out of context. Finish it, finish the whole thing.” The public procurator had to finish the second half, which said, “Although we quarreled, I believe my wife is not guilty and should be released.”
The public procurator presented a list of charges. Ms. You in turn said that all the charges were false accusations. She stated that local police officers and agents for the procurator have not presented evidence of any crime. Therefore, without solid evidence, this case cannot be transferred to the court.
Ms. You's attorney explained that Falun Gong is not a cult. He described the practice from different perspectives and added that Falun Gong practitioners' distributing truth-clarifying materials did not break Chinese law.
History of Many Arrests and Torture
Ms. You's latest arrest occurred on January 29, 2013, when police officers from Jiaocheng County arrested her during the night. She was distributing truth-clarifying materials in Zhaizi Village, located a few miles from the town of Jiaocheng County.
Her home was ransacked by officers from the local 610 Office on January 31, 2013. Around the Chinese New Year, her husband went to the police department, political and legal affairs committee and county government agency to request her release. Someone said, “We want to help but your wife refuses to sign any documents. There is no way we can help.”
Ms. You was arrested many times by the 610 Office because she wants to practice Falun Gong and live by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
She was held at the Xindian Women's Labor Camp in Taiyuan City for 18 months. Guards at that camp tortured her through sleep deprivation. Inmates were assigned to monitor her and beat her whenever she fell asleep. They tried to “transform” her into a bad person. She was released in September 2011.
