(Minghui.org) Fengman District Court in Jilin City secretly tried Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Yuhai and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment. When his family asked why they were not informed about the hearing and verdict, Wang, the Gaoxin District Court president, said, “Why should I inform you?”
On the evening of May 29, 2012, officers from Changjiang Police Station arrested Mr. Liu and took him to Jilin City Detention Center. He was held there for half a year. During that time, Mr. Liu's family including his wife and daughter often went to the local police station, the detention center, the criminal investigation unit, and the court to request his release, but to no avail.
When Mr. Liu's family went to Gaoxin District Procuratorate on September 14, 2012, to request his release, a staff member told them that his case had been transferred to Gaoxin District Court and a hearing had taken place 10 days before.
At Gaoxin District Court, Mr. Liu's family talked to president Wang of the Criminal Court. Wang said a verdict had not yet been decided upon. When asked why the family was not informed about the court hearing, Wang couldn't answer and blatantly lied that the court had sent out a notice. He agreed to keep the family members informed of the verdict.
On November 27, 2012, Mr. Liu's family went to the criminal court of Gaoxin District Court. Wang told them over the phone that Mr. Liu's verdict was handed down on November 24. Mr. Liu's family asked, “We came here on the 22nd and 23rd. Why didn't you tell us the verdict would be announced on the 24th? None of us were informed of the hearing or the verdict.” Wang brazenly said, “Why should I inform you. Don't you know now?” The family member then said, “You are violating the laws you are supposed to uphold!” Wang responded, “I don't want to talk to you about it.” The family member kept saying, “You are the law enforcement department. If I don't talk to you, who else do you expect me to talk to? Shouldn't you give us a reasonable explanation? You illegally arrest someone at home during the night and sentence him.” Wang could only reply, “Do not tell me this,” and hung up the phone.
According to an inside source, officials at Gaoxin District Court charged Mr. Liu with “undermining law enforcement.” The Chinese Communist regime can't find any legal basis to charge practitioners, so they have to use such vague “charges.” In doing so, practitioners' cases can't be questioned and are rushed through the court system.
