(Minghui.org) Mr. Si Xicui, 38, was arrested at work in the Chaoyang District of Beijing by officers from the Yongding Road Police Station in the Haidian District, Beijing. He was later sentenced to two years of forced labor and is now in Xin'an Forced Labor Camp. His family could not find a place to appeal for him.

Mr. Si's wife is not in good health, his children are still young, and his parents are old. His entire family depends on him.

On November 28, 2012, his family and the two lawyers they hired went to the Beijing Appeals Office together to appeal on his behalf. The officials that met them were Jia Bo and Zhang Shu.

A month later, the lawyers and his family called the appeals office to ask when their appeal documents would be reviewed. They were told that the case had been accepted and that they would be notified when the review time was set. The regular waiting period is 60 days, 90 days for special cases.

On January 8, 2013, the lawyers contacted the appeals office again. Hou Fang, a clerk in that office, told them that the appeal had been reviewed and that Mr. Sui's sentence would not be changed. The lawyers protested, and it was finally agreed that the case files would be read at 2:00 p.m. the next day. The appeals office took some of the documents, so the lawyers were only allowed to read the rest of them. One of the documents was a video showing the police using violence against Mr. Si, but Wang Yangdong, another official at the appeals office, did not allow it to be copied. Another document was the Transcripts of the Labor Camp Sentence Announcement, which said, “... sentence you to two years of forced labor, with the sentence to be be carried out outside of the labor camp...” However, Mr. Si is currently being detained in Xin'an Forced Labor Camp.

On January 11, 2013, Mr. Si's family went to the Haidian District Detention Center and tried to find out from the officials of the Law Division why Mr. Si was serving his sentence inside the labor camp instead of outside. However, they were not allowed in and had to call the Law Division instead. Over the phone, they were told that the transcript was wrong and that the officials could not do anything further since he had already been sent to the labor camp. His family requested an official explanation but was told to call back. When they later called back, another official said there was no need for further explanation and hung up. When they tried to call again, they could not get an answer.

That afternoon his family went to the Yongding Road Police Station and asked for the return of all of Mr. Si's confiscated belongings. They were ignored.
