Husband of Practitioner Petitions for Her Release by Collecting Signatures and Fingerprints from Community

March 30, 2013 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Hubei Province, China

(Minghui.org) The husband of Falun Gong practitioner Lei Shengli has resorted to collecting fingerprints in a plea for his wife's release after she was illegally sentenced. He has collected almost 400 fingerprints so far. Sixty-seven-year-old Mr. Li Musheng lives in Junshui Town, Tongcheng County, Hubei Province. He says his wife is innocent and that practicing Falun Gong is not a crime. He is deeply worried about her health as an old illness recurred while she was incarcerated and not allowed to continue her Falun Gong exercises.

Nearly 400 people signed and marked their fingerprints to call for the release of practitioner Mrs. Lei Shengli.

Mr. Li's wife, Mrs. Lei Shengli, is a housewife in her fifties. She has been arrested five times for practicing Falun Gong. She was imprisoned at the Shayang Forced Labor Camp for two years in 2002. Items confiscated by police, cash extorted by officers, and wages withheld over the years totaled about 100,000 yuan.

Mrs. Lei was last arrested at home on April 16, 2012 by officers Li Chenggang, Hu Hanxiong, and Zhang Dinger from the Domestic Security Division, and grantor of Baota Section in Xiushui Community Ge Wanglong (female, 55, accountant of Xiushui Community). The officers searched the home and took Falun Dafa books, truth clarification materials, a notebook computer, a DVD recorder, a printer, and an unknown amount of cash.

Mrs. Lei's two lawyers pled not guilty at the Tongcheng County Court on September 7, 2012. They argued that the Constitution grants Chinese citizens the right to practice Falun Gong, as well as the right to produce and distribute truth-clarification materials.

The prosecutors did not challenge their plea in court, and the court did not make any judgment on that day. However, the police kept Mrs. Lei in prison, and the Tongcheng County Court sentenced her to three years in prison on January 10, 2013.

Mrs. Lei is incarcerated at the Tongcheng County Detention Center. She has appealed to the Xianning City Middle Court.

To dispute the injustice of the judicial system, Mr. Li has called for support from the community for his wife's release. He is collecting signatures and fingerprints from the public.
