(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Baohan was secretly taken to the Guozhen Forced Labor Camp in Baoji City, Shaanxi Province, in October 2012. He was subjected to severe mental and physical torture, and became emaciated in less than two months.
Under the direction of Du Haoyue, director of the camp, Mr. Chen was sent to team No. 3, which exists to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Captain Li Zhansheng and Deputy Captain Zheng Haipeng had criminal prisoners torture Mr. Chen, leaving him with bruises all over his body.
Mr. Chen had been dismissed from his job at the Hanzhong Bus Factory in 2002 because he practiced Falun Gong. He wrote a complaint in 2012, stating that he should be reinstated. On September 10, 2012, members of the Hanzhong 610 Office and the Hantai District Domestic Security Division ransacked his home. After Mr. Chen secured a job as a laborer, they arrested him at his place of work and held him in the Hantai District Detention Center. The police lied to his family, saying that he would be released after the Chinese Communist Party 18th Congress Conference.
Without any formal charges being filed against him or a trial, the Hanzhong City Forced Labor Committee on September 26, 2012 sentenced Chen Baohan to 18 months of forced labor. His family knows that Mr. Chen is innocent of any wrongdoing, so they hired an attorney, who filed a written application for reconsideration of the forced labor sentence, demanding a judicial review. The authorities refused to allow the family to visit. The family then went to the 610 Office and Hantai District Domestic Security Division, but were ignored. Under pressure from the authorities, the attorney did not continue with the case.
The family once again went to the Hanzhong Detention Center in October 2012, asking to meet with Mr. Chen. A few days later, he was secretly taken to the Guozhen Forced Labor Camp in Baoji City. His family had not been sent any prior notice from the Hanzhong 610 Office, the Hantai District Domestic Security Division, or the Hanzhong Detention Center, so they thought that he was still being held at the Hanzhong Detention Center. Through November and December, they still tried to visit him there, paid money into his personal account, and sent him clothing.
In mid-December, his family learned that he was actually being held in the Baoji City labor camp. They rushed to the Hanzhong Detention Center and questioned the officials there. Mr. Chen had been sent away almost two months earlier. Why had the detention center still taken the money and personal belongings sent by Mr. Chen's family? An officer bluntly claimed that they didn't know Mr. Chen had been transferred to another facility.
Because Mr. Chen had lodged the petition for reconsideration, demanding justice and exposing the illegal acts of the Hanzhong 610 Office and the Hanzhong Forced Labor Committee, in revenge, the Hanzhong 610 Office conspired with Guozhen Forced Labor Camp officials and gave orders for him to be tortured.
Mr. Chen's family farm had been sold to the Hanzhong Bus Factory in May 1988, when it expanded. He then became employed at the factory. He began practicing Falun Gong in 1997 and benefited both physically and mentally. However, after the Chinese Communist Party, under Jiang Zemin's tyranny, launched the persecution of Falun Gong, Mr. Chen was twice imprisoned in forced labor camps for being steadfast in his belief. When he was released from a detention center in July 2002, he had many scars. His employer dismissed him. To make a living, he did hard labor in the transportation industry.
Mr. Chen filed an appeal in 2012 against the Hanlong Bus Factory for firing him, complaining about the factory's legal representative, Fu Jun. Mr. Chen had requested that the illegal dismissal be reversed and that he be compensated for the loss of income and mental hardship. Instead of addressing his petition, the authorities arrested him again.
