Medical Doctor Faces Prison Sentence for Practicing Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) On January 16, 2013 Dr. Shang Guiying, Rizhao City, Shandong Province, was arrested for telling people about Falun Gong, a spiritual practice that has benefited her both mentally and physically.

Dr. Shang, 49, suffered frequent nose bleeds so severe that she had intense headaches and even lost consciousness. Although both Dr. Shang and her husband have medical training, they could not cure or even diagnose her symptoms.

Dr. Shang started practicing Falun Gong in 2003. Her persistent problems disappeared soon after and she regained her health. She then applied Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to her medical practice every day. She enjoyed an excellent reputation among her patients. The doctor and her family were very happy about the changes in her life.

However, Dr. Shang was arrested by the Ju County 610 Office on January 16, 2013 because she spoke to people in her parents' neighborhood about how she had benefited from practicing Falun Gong. She was first detained at the Ju County Detention Center, and is now at the Rizhao City Detention Center.

The 610 Office tried to extort 50,000 yuan from her family just to release Dr. Shang, but this was rejected by the family. In retaliation, the 610 Office announced that they would impose a prison sentence on Dr. Shang.

We ask all people of conscience to help stop this unjust persecution of an innocent citizen.
