(Minghui.org) The Jiangyuan District Court in Baishan, Jilin Province, held a secret trial against Ms. Gong Qiumin and Ms. Xie Yuhong at the end of February 2013. Ms. Gong was sentenced to 20 months in prison while Ms. Xie Yuhong was sentenced to 19 months in prison. Both of the practitioners filed appeals. The Baishan Intermediate's Court recently maintained the original decision and the two practitioners were sent to prison.
Ms. Gong Qiumin and Ms. Xie Yuhong from Jiangyuan District, Baishan, were arrested by officers from the Jiangyuan Police Station on the way home from a farmer's market on February 16, 2012. The police confiscated the personal property they carried after they were taken to the Jiangyuan Police Station. Wei Yuxia from the Jiangyuan 610 Office along with Wei Fanbao and another policeman from the Chengqiang Police Sation in Jiangyuan, went to ransack Ms. Xie Yuhong's home and took away her computer, books and other property. The two practitioners were then sent to the Jiangyuan Detention Center.
Ms. Gong Qiumin went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution in the detention center. She was tied on a “death bed” by the guards and her hands and feet were shackled with iron chains. Since she had not eaten for days and had a disabled leg, she was very weak and shouted constantly, requesting the guard to free her from the “death bed.”
However, the guards just unshackled her disabled leg and brutally force-fed her. On the next day, the tubing used for force-feeding dripped bloody water. The person in charge of force-feeding was scared and did not dare to force-feed her any more. Ms. Gong was tortured until she became critically ill. She was not freed from the “death bed” until she agreed to eat. Pan Ying, a female guard, was very vicious. She shouted to send the two practitioners to prison.
The police extorted about 10,000 yuan from Ms. Gong's family. Ms. Gong was released on bail for medical treatment on February 23, 2012 after being detained for eight days. The police forced her family to agree to monitor her activities. She lost her personal freedom. And the local police often went to her home to harass her.
In less than two months, Ms. Gong was arrested again on April 20, 2012.
At the end of June 2012, the court informed Ms. Xie Yuhong's family that her case had been transferred to the court and that they could hire a defense attorney for her. After her family hired an attorney, the court went back on its word, saying that the higher authorities ruled that “Falun Gong cases” were not allowed to have defense attorneys. At that time, Judge Shao was in charge of the case.
Ms. Gong Qiumin's family runs a grocery. She began to practice Falun Gong in 1999. She soon became healthy and her family lived in harmony. Since Jiang Zemin's regime launched the persecution against Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Gong and her husband, Zhang Gongchang, were arrested and detained many times because they did not give up their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
Ms. Gong was detained four times between 2001 and 2012. She was tortured in the Jiangyuan Detention Center, the Baishan Detention Center, the Jiutai (Yinmahe) Forced Labor Camp in Jilin Province and the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp in Changchun.
On December 26, 2007, Ms. Gong Qiumin was arrested and transferred to the Hezuizi Women's Forced Labor Camp in Changchun. As a result of the persecution, she developed several illnesses and was very weak. After being released, she gradually restored her health through cultivating Falun Dafa.
