(Minghui.org) Mr. Wei Cheng, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jilin Province, was arrested four years ago. Two years ago, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison and taken to Gongzhuling Prison, Jilin Province. As a result of serious torture, he suffered gastric bleeding and has been taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
On the afternoon of January 9, 2013, Mr. Wei Cheng's family received a notice from prison officials, telling them that he had been taken to room 701 at the hospital in Gongzhuling City. His parents, in their 70s, and other family members went to the hospital, traveling overnight more than 100 kilometers, to see him. However, police officers were watching the ward closely 24 hours a day and didn't allow them in. The police threatened his family, “We will take him back to prison should you insist on seeing him.” After being in a deadlock for quite some time, the police finally allowed his family to enter the ward, but arranged for many plainclothes officers to monitor them.
On May 27, 2007, police officers from Nong'an County arrested Mr. Wei, claiming that he had made Falun Gong banners. Nong'an County court sentenced him to three different prison terms: to 5 years on November 2, 2007; then changed it to 8 years in March 2008; and changed it again to 18 years on March 27, 2009.
According to previous reports on the Minghui website, listed below is a brief description of Mr. Wei's arrest and sentencing.
On the evening of May 27, 2007, Liu Changqing, the superintendent of the Helong Township Police Station conspired with officers from the Nong'an County Police Bureau and Changchun Police Bureau to arrested Mr. Wei Cheng, Mr. Li Rui, Mr. Wang Shoushan, Mr. Fu Cheng, Ms. Xu Yafen, and Ms. Li Yaying. Liu Changqing screamed that they were going to arrest 30 Falun Gong practitioners in Helong Township.
In September 2007, Mr. Wei's wife went to the police station and asked that they release her husband. Policeman Zhang Cheng shouted, “Anyone but Wei Cheng can be released.” Then he detained his wife and didn't release her until they got evidence from the hospital that she was three months pregnant.
On November 2, 2007, Nong'an County Court sentenced Mr. Wei Cheng, Mr. Li Rui, Mr. Fu Cheng, and Mr. Wang Shoushan to prison terms of 5 years, 6 years, 4 years, and 3 years respectively.
In March 2008, during the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Congress, officials from the Chang Chun 610 Office and Nong'an County “Team for Special Cases” classified Mr. Wei Cheng and other Falun Gong practitioners as "important cases" in Jilin Province. They ordered the Nong'an County Court to sentence Mr. Wei Cheng, Mr. Li Rui, Mr. Fu Cheng, and Mr. Wang Shoushan to 7 or 8 years in prison. Mr. Wei Cheng's prison term was changed from 5 to 8 years. Informants reported that, on the trial date, many 610 Office agents were present. The trial itself lasted only about 10 minutes.
At 8:30 a.m. on December 19, 2008, Nong'an County Court convened to sentence Mr. Wei Cheng one more time. Several other Falun Gong practitioners were also sentenced: Mr. Han Xixiang, Mr. Li Fengming, Mr. Wang Xiuping, Mr. Zhang Wanjun, Mr. Zhao Yushu, Mr. Qi Yunchao and Mr. Yu Jingwen.
From 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. on March 27, 2009, Nong'an County Court sentenced seven practitioners, including Mr. Wei, to serious prison terms. This trial lasted only 30 minutes.
Mr. Wei was held in a detention center for a long time after he was arrested. Shortly after he was sentenced, he was taken to Gongzhuling Prison and tortured. Further details are still under investigation. Due to the torture, he suffered from gastric bleeding and has been taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. The police were assigned to closely watch the ward he was taken to.
Participants involved in persecuting Mr. Wei Cheng include officials from the Domestic Security Division in Nong'an County, the Nong'an County Procuratorate, Nong'an County Court, and the Helong Township Police Station.
