(Minghui.org) Mr. Liu Wei was put on trial at Nanzheng County Court in Shaanxi Province on May 14, 2013. He chose to defend himself, and only asked that his family be allowed to sit in on the court session. There were many police cars parked in front of the courthouse gate and plainclothes officers were patrolling nearby, as security was tightened around the court.
Mr. Liu's daughter and others came to sit in on the court session. Officers checked their IDs and repeatedly subjected them to body searches. Nanzheng County Court, Nanzheng Police Department and Nanzheng Detention Center are in very close proximity to each other.
Although Mr. Liu was held in the detention center, which is within walking distance to the court, he was taken to the court wearing handcuffs, shackles and had his head covered. Mr. Liu's daughter did not recognize him until the cover was removed from his head. It was only two months since his arrest, but he had lost a lot of weight and his hair was turning white.
In the court, the prosecutor first read the charge of “using a heretical organization to undermine the implementation of law.” The judge then read the “criminal activities” evidence provided by the Procuratorate. On January 27, 2013, Liu Wei distributed the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and Falun Gong materials in Huangguan Town, Nanzheng County. Yang Xinhu received a copy of the Nine Commentaries and immediately reported it to officers at Huangguan Town Police Station. Zhang Xiaomin and another officer were on duty at the time. Yang led Zhang to Mr. Liu, and Zhang arrested him at the scene. The Procuratorate later found Ms. Du Hongli, the owner of a clothing store, as a witness. The Procuratorate stated that Mr. Liu possessed a total of 91 articles of evidence, including Nine Commentaries , Falun Gong leaflets and other Dafa materials.
Mr. Liu stated in court that Falun Gong was a teaching of the Buddha school, which taught people to be good, and that distributing the Nine Commentaries was to revive China's true history.
The court was adjourned without a verdict being announced.
