(Minghui.org) On June 18, 2013, Purdue University in Indianapolis, Indiana, hosted a refugee art exhibition. Haiwen Yu, a Falun Gong practitioner, was invited by the State Refugee Bureau for the second time to showcase her beautifully made silk flowers.
Ms. Yu showed slides of her family and how their health had improved after practicing Falun Gong in 1996. She also shared how her life and her family's life changed after the Chinese Communist Party started persecuting Falun Gong in China three years later. She recounted how some of her fellow practitioners in China had been tortured in prisons and labor camps, sent to metal hospitals, or were subjected to live organ harvesting.
Her presentation moved the Refugee Bureau official and others present to tears. They were shocked to hear that Falun Gong is being brutally persecuted in China and touched by practitioners’ ongoing efforts to clarify the facts in the face of such oppression. Many people came over to hug and encourage her. Several American couples expressed their appreciation for Ms. Yu's efforts and asked for brochures.
Ms. Yu said that she made silk flowers because it was a way for her to talk about her beliefs and what was important to her. When people asked how they could help support her cause, she replied, “Standing up for Falun Gong is the best way to support us!”
