Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Maoyuan of Jiaonan City, Qingdao was illegally arrested and tortured, which led to a severe physical breakdown. He was sentenced to imprisonment, but not accepted at the prison due to his poor physical condition. He was sent back to Jiaonan Detention Center, where he is still being held.
Mr. Zhang's family recently learned about his deteriorated physical condition. When they requested a visit with him and to apply for his medical parole, the center refused their requests. Zhang Maoyuan is now forced to do slave labor in the detention center.
610 Office Directs the Arrest, Court Sentences Falsely
Mr. Zhang Maoyuan is a 48-year-old from Xiaohedong, Jiaonan City. Officers from Zhangjialou Police Station arrested Mr. Zhang and his wife Ms. Feng Jinhua on March 27, 2012. Their home was ransacked.
Agents from the Jiaonan City 610 Office interrogated the couple using torture, because they were found to have Falun Gong truth-clarification materials in their home. Mr. Zhang Maoyuan was detained at the Jiaonan City Detention Center, and Ms. Feng Jinhua was taken to Dashan House of Detention (now relocated to Pudong Town, Jimo City) in Qingdao. Feng Jinhua was rejected by the detention center as she had symptoms of high blood pressure. The police took her to Jinan Brainwashing Center, and then to Dashan Detention Center.
The Jiaonan Court illegally tried Mr. Zhang Maoyuan, who had already been detained for five months, on August 6, 2012. Falun Gong practitioners Geng Dexiao, Yin Qiye, and Li Qibing were also tried at the same time. Jiaonan Court personnel followed orders from the Jiaonan 610 Office, and did not let the practitioners' families know about the hearing. Zhao Maoyuan was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment with trumped up charges. In order to ensure that Mr. Zhang was given a lengthy sentence, the police officers dissembled a brochure into individual pages, and counted each page as evidence.
Mr. Zhang Maoyuan was taken to the Jinan Prison on October 16, 2012. Due to severe torture, he became seriously ill. After seven days the prison officials wanted to remove him from their premises so they wouldn't be held accountable if he died. Jiaonan City Detention Center took him back and continued to detain him, without notifying his family.
Dutiful Son Persecuted--Villagers Say “Heaven and Earth Will Not Tolerate”
Local villagers were outraged about the arrest of Zhang Maoyuan and Feng Jinhua. The couple are recognized as great and virtuous people in Xiaohedong Village. They became healthy after practicing Falun Gong, and their nearly broken family became harmonious. Zhang Maoyuan's parents have been seriously ill and disabled for a long time. His father is an 85-year-old veteran who has been paralyzed for over ten years, and his mother is 87 and blind. Mr. Zhang and his wife take full responsibility for the elderly parents.
After the couple was arrested, the elderly parents were stuck in their home without food for two days. When the other relatives found them the two elders cried, “Where is our son? Why didn't he come and cook for us?” The relatives and neighbours who were present all cried. The two elders are dependent on Zhang and his wife. The villagers cursed the Chinese Communist Party for arresting such a virtuous son. Where is justice?
Zhang Maoyuan's 88-year-old blind mother is now hospitalised with a serious illness.
