(Minghui.org) Ten Falun Gong practitioners, including Ms. Tao Dafeng, Ms. Xia Biyi, Ms. Guo Defen, Mr. Ran Wenxue, Mr. Xu Zhengzhong (Xu Wenzhong), and Ms. Li Jinru (Li Lei), were arrested by officers from the Dazhou City 610 Office, Sichuan Province July 3-5, 2011.
The practitioners were tried in the Tongchuan District Court, Dazhou City, on December 28, 2011.
Ms. Tao Dafeng, 65, is a retired official from the Finance Bureau, Tongchuan District, Dazhou City. She was arrested by the Tongchuan District Police Department, Dazhou City, on March 15, 2001, for being a Falun Gong practitioner and living by Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
She was arrested again on August 21, 2004 and detained for ten days.
Ms. Tao was again arrested on July 4, 2011, by officers from the Tongchuan District Court, Dazhou City, and transferred to the Dazhou City Detention Center on August 11, 2011.
Ms. Tao was sentenced to a 10-year prison term on December 28, 2011, by Tongchuan District Court. She was transferred to the No. 7 Ward of Sichuan Province Women's Prison in Jianyang City in April 2012.
Ms. Xia Biyi, 59, is retired from the Dachuan City Beer Brewery. She was arrested by the Chengdu City Police Department on May 13, 2005, and held for 15 days.
She was arrested again by the Tongchuan District Police Department of Dazhou City on July 4, 2011. Her arrest was approved by the Dachuan District Police Department on August 11, 2011, and she was transferred to the Dazhou City Detention Center.
Ms. Xia was sentenced to an 8-year prison term on December 28, 2011, by the Tongchuan District Court, Dazhou City, and transferred to the No. 6 Ward of Sichuan Province Women's Prison in April 2012.
Ms. Guo Defen, 65, is retired from the Fuwei Food Company in the Tongchuan District. She was arrested by the Tongchuan District Police Department on July 4, 2011, for practicing Falun Gong and held inthe Dazhou City Detention Center.
Ms. Guo was sentenced to a 3-year prison term on December 28, 2011, by the Tongchuan District Court and has been held in the No. 8 Ward of Sichuan Province Women's Prison since April 2012.
Mr. Ran Wenxue, 64, is retired from the Dachuan City Sugar and Liquid Company. He was arrested by the Tongchuan District Police Department on July 4, 2011, for practicing Falun Gong. He was taken to the Dazhou City Detention Center.
Mr. Ran was sentenced to a 5-year prison term on December 28, 2011, by the Tongchuan District Court, then transferred to the No. 2 Ward of Wumaping Prison in Qingxi Town, Jianwei County, Leshan City, in July 2012.
Mr. Xu Zhengzhong, 72, is retired from the Dazhou City Textile General Factory. He was arrested by officers from the Da Couty Police Department on October 8, 2000. He was again arrested in 2001 and released in June 2001.
He was arrested by officers from the Tongchuan District Department on July 4, 2011. Because he developed high blood pressure, he was released on medical parole on November 2, 2011.
Mr. Xu was sentenced by the Tongchuan District Court on December 28, 2011. He was sentenced to a 5-year prison term but is allowed to serve his time confined at home.
Ms. Li Jinru (also known as “Li Lei”), 50, is retired from the Tianli Textile Factory in Sichuan Province.
Ms. Li went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in late February 2000. She was arrested by the Dachuan City Police Department. She was released on bail on March 23, 2000.
Ms. Li traveled to another city in May 2000 and was arrested by the Dachuan City Police Department. She was held for 15 days.
She was arrested again on May 6, 2001, by the Tongchuan District Police Department, and sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor on July 26, 2001.
Ms. Li was again arrested on July 19, 2011, by the Tongchuan District Police Department, and held at the Dazhou City Detention Center.
She was sentenced to 5-year prison term on December 28, 2011, by the Tongchuan District Court in Dazhou City.
While in prison, Ms. Li developed severe illness symptoms, lost consciousness, and was taken to the Dazhou City Second People's Hospital for emergency treatment. She was diagnosed with “Level III high risk, high blood pressure, 170-250 mmHg.” She also had symptoms of heart disease, high blood glucose, and other conditions. Guards were worried about her condition worsening and asked the 610 Office and the Political and Legal Affairs Committee to release her on medical parole.
After two meetings among the police department, the court, and Procuratorate, it was decided that the detention centers priority was to maintain stability and thus not grant medical parole. They were concerned because of National People's Congress and Chinese People's Political Congress conferences taking place during 2012, reasoning that she might appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong.
Ms. Li was transferred to the Sichuan Province Women's Prison in late April 2012. She was rejected due to her health and returned to the detention center.
In mid-May 2012, she was in a critical condition and released on medical parole, but confined to her home.
She was monitored around the clock during the 18th CPC National Convention.
