(Minghui.org) Whenever I enlightened to something from studying the Fa, I always wanted to let other practitioners know about it. I gradually realized that this mentality wasn't appropriate for a practitioner. The principles that I understood should be used to help me improve in cultivation; I shouldn't think that it's intended for others.
I knew I shouldn't be attached to sharing with practitioners whenever I enlightened to something. However, the attachment continued to surface whenever I studied the Fa. I decided to really look within to find the cause.
I found that I was too focused on telling others to follow what I had enlightened to, instead of doing that myself. I was basically trying to avoid the fact that I should follow the principle that I had come to realize.
When practitioners around me don't follow a principle that I have enlightened to, it does not mean that I should ignore it as well. The purpose of cultivation is to improve our own character, not to focus on what others should do.
Teacher said:
"Cultivation focuses inward, and a cultivator should cultivate him or herself and look within to find the source of problems. You should work hard on yourself and try to improve in the areas you haven’t done enough with. If you look hard at others to find the source of friction, others will succeed in cultivation and ascend, while you will be the only one left here. Won’t you have wasted all of your time? Cultivation is for cultivating yourself!" (Falun Gong)
I now better understand that practitioners must look inward to improve themselves, and not focus on what others should do.
