(Minghui.org) Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Wei Anyue was released on December 7, 2013, after 10 years in prison. Just 54, he looked like an old man.
Incarcerated and Tortured
Mr. Wei, a truck driver, and his wife, Ms. He Bingying, also a practitioner, were arrested in December 2003 by the Lanzhou Domestic Security Division in Gansu Province, along with 11 other practitioners. He was handcuffed to an iron chair, interrogated, and deprived of sleep. Ms. He was hung up by the handcuffs from 8 a.m. until the evening.
Mr. Wei was sentenced to ten years in prison and taken to the Lanzhou Prison, where he was forced to do hard labor. He peeled garlic from early morning until 1 a.m. the following day, and was beaten when he didn't meet his quota.
He was put in solitary confinement and monitored by seven inmate-helpers when the Lanzhou Prison began an all-out effort to “transform” practitioners. They took turns trying to make him write the three statements, beating him, and depriving him of sleep. They also made him watch videos slandering Dafa and its Teacher throughout the day. The guards ordered the inmate-helpers to hit him with towel-wrapped bricks to avoid external injuries. The torture lasted for over 40 days.
Ms. He was sentenced to seven years in Lanzhou Women's Prison, where she was forced to do labor 14 hours a day, often had to stand for hours, and was deprived of sleep.
Prior Arrests and Persecution of Mr. Wei
Mr. Wei was put under house arrest by his employer. They worried that he would go to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Dafa. They assigned people to monitor him around the clock. He escaped and went to Beijing in late January 2000, and was arrested and held for 15 days in the Jinchang City Drug Rehabilitation Center.
After Mr. Wei's release, his company refused to let him work, but still ordered him to write the three statements to give up Falun Gong. When he refused, they took him to a brainwashing center.
Afterward, the police forced him to do hard labor, such as digging trenches, planting trees, and loading and unloading tons of coal. He was then taken to the Jinchuan Company Drug Rehabilitation Center.
His company canceled his work contract for refusing to renounce Falun Dafa after he was released from the Rehabilitation Center in October 2000. They canceled the new house that they had allotted to him and evicted him from the dormitory. He became homeless.
Mr. Wei was arrested twice in 2001 and detained at the Jinchuan Company Drug Rehabilitation Center.
Prior Arrests and Persecution of Ms. He
Ms. He went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Dafa and was arrested in January 2000. She was taken back to Jinchang City and held in the Jinchang City Detention Center for 15 days.
She went to Beijing in February for a second time and was arrested and taken back again. She was detained in the Jinchang City Drug Rehabilitation Center for 42 days.
She was arrested at her home in August 2000, held in the national security bureau, and then taken to a Drug Rehabilitation Center. She was held there for three months.
A month after her release, she was arrested and sentenced to one and a half years in Pingtai Forced Labor Camp in Lanzhou City. For nine days in a row, she was forced to do hard labor during the day and deprived of sleep at night, .
