(Minghui.org) I work in the medical field. When I did not feel well, I had an MRI scan in March 2005. Within two hours, I was told that I had a brain tumor.
The hospital's director arranged for an internationally renowned professor, who worked in the Tiantan Hospital in Beijing, to evaluate me. He told me that because of the location of the tumor, there was a high chance for me to become paralyzed—even if I had the most advanced type of surgery. He did not believe that I could be helped.
I was hospitalized for a month. After more examinations, the news did not get any better, so I was discharged. Sick leave was an option, but I opted to continue working while I looked for a cure. However, different symptoms began to show, and I had to go on sick leave anyway.
My family persuaded me to try practicing Falun Gong.
I read Zhuan Falun, the main book of this cultivation practice, and realized that it taught people to give up bad habits and become good. I followed Falun Gong's principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.” I read Zhuan Falun and did the exercises every day, even though I could not do all the movements in the beginning.
It took only one week for me to walk down from the fifth floor to go for a walk outside. The hospital director and a few of the supervisors visited me and could not believe their eyes.
The Falun Gong principles became deeply ingrained in my heart. Now, I think of others first and look within when I face conflicts. If I find that I am at fault, I correct myself immediately.
I no longer accept money and gifts from my subordinates, but I tell them that I practice Falun Gong and live by higher standards.
After I moved to another job, my former employees complained to me about their new boss. I advised them to put themselves in her shoes, be considerate of her, and support her. Someone said, “As soon as I talk with you, my heart brightens up.”
When I worked at the outpatient window, I dealt with everyone based on the Falun Gong principles. A supplier offered me a 20,000 yuan bribe so I would accept his substandard goods. I did not accept it, but told him to improve his products instead.
“I practice Falun Gong,” I said. “Falun Gong is a Buddha school practice and teaches 'Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.' In this material world where morality declines and people become selfish, I will not drift with the current. I hope that you will take credibility as the most important part of doing business, and then your business will boom.”
Other suppliers also came to understand why I do not accept kickbacks.
To everyone's surprise, I was transferred to the popular outpatient unit, because one could accumulate many illicit benefits in that division. So I brought my ethical standards to this job and developed a good relationship with my coworkers.
In this way, most of my new coworkers gradually stopped accepting gifts. Sometimes, people dropped off fruits or drinks, which we returned.
One day, a classmate's friend came to see me. She had cancer and was very depressed. I found her a good doctor and arranged to transfer her to a hospital. I told her about my previous situation and that she should recite “Falun Gong is good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.”
She came to see me before the Chinese New Year and told me that she was free of cancer.
My friends and relatives sometimes asked me for materials that were only available in my unit. I would give them the materials and pay for them myself. Now, they've all come to understand the principle of “no loss, no gain,” and have begun to pay for the materials themselves.
I do not take advantage of my workplace. Some people say I am foolish. But that is incorrect—I am relaxed and happy! I have brought a healthy atmosphere to my surroundings.
Because I practice Falun Gong, I have benefited greatly. I no longer suffer from any of my former illnesses, my body is light, and I am very healthy.
In this materialistic society, I am not corrupt, do not accept bribes or kickbacks, and strive to be an altruistic and decent person.
