(Minghui.org) On December 9, legislators of Kaohsiung City passed a resolution supporting the lawsuits filed against China's former dictator Jiang Zemin.World Human Rights Day was the following day, December 10.
The resolution was proposed by Speaker of Kaohsiung City Council Ms. Kang Yu-Cheng to support lawsuits against Jiang Zemin, to call on the Chinese government to govern by the rule of law and to stop the persecution of Falun Gong.
The resolution received full support from legislators of both parties and passed after 3 readings, making it the first city level resolution in Chinese speaking countries supporting lawsuits against Jiang Zemin.

Members of Kaohsiung City Council signed on a large form reporting Jiang Zemin's to the Supreme People's Prosecutorate of China and the Supreme People's Court of China.

Ms. Kang remarked that it was the first human rights resolution with support from the city council. “It announces that the Kaohsiung City Council embraces the universal values of human rights and the City Council is against any regime to suppress human rights with autocracy,” said Ms. Kang.
Excerpt of the resolution:
“Whereas, Former General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, Jiang Zemin, abused his power, violated the Chinese Constitution, and the laws of the country, by ordered the establishment of a 'Presiding Team of Falun Gong Issue' and its enforcing organizations '610 Offices' and started the persecution of Falun Gong which has continued since July 20, 1999 in China.
“Whereas, Jiang Zemin abused his power by controlling, leading, monitoring and enforcing the persecution of Falun Gong, ordered government workers of all levels including diplomats stationed in foreign countries to persecute Falun Gong, resulting in millions of Falun Gong practitioners being illegal jailed, murdered, tortured and even vital organs forcefully taken.
“Whereas, international organizations, including United Nations Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, United States Congressional and Executive Commission on China, have investigated and published many human rights violation reports.”
