(Minghui.org) The islands of French Polynesia are located northeast of Australia, in the vast Pacific Ocean, thousands of miles from any major land masses. The native peoples who have lived there for centuries are believed to be descendants from Asia, or more specifically, from Taiwan.
Thousands of years ago, they were expert sailors who navigated the great seas to land on the islands of Hawaii, and finally where French Polynesia is today. In modern times, French Polynesia is mostly French-speaking, with many French people living on the islands, as well as Chinese descendants and a small handful other nationalities.
A group of practitioners traveled to French Polynesia to tell the people there about Falun Dafa. When our airplane landed, we began passing out Falun Dafa fliers in Papetee, the main city of Tahiti. Many of the locals were quite receptive and understood the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance. They said, “These are our ancient ways–ways that have meaning.” Most of the natives regularly meditate in the morning, so they easily accepted Dafa exercises and understood their importance.
On the more remote islands of Mo’orea, Huahine, Raiatea, Rangiora, and Bora Bora, Dafa was even more graciously received. Some took many fliers to distribute to the even more remote islands and far-away relatives, in order to spread the “good news.”
Several people asked us, “Is there a practice site on the Islands? We really want to learn.” Another said, “This is magical! We're so glad you came!”
A merchant insisted on giving us a beautiful shell necklace in exchange for our flier! We tried to pay her for it, but she flatly refused.
We learned that people live a simple life here in French Polynesia. Even in the largest city, they had just started to lock their doors in 2005 because of crime. The people of the islands always smile and have a good inner spirit. After passing out hundreds of fliers, we left Zhuan Falun books in the main city library for those who want to learn more.
We were sad to leave French Polynesia, as it is such a remote place and hard to reach. We can only hope more practitioners can go there to help save the good people who live in such a unique place.
