(Minghui.org) China is infamous for counterfeit and defective goods. Reports of dogs poisoned by Chinese-made dog food, and American homes fitted with contaminated Chinese drywall, are among the many scandalous Chinese imports which have emerged in the United States. The Great Cultural Revolution in 1966 led to the destruction of traditional Chinese culture, and the corruption of people's moral values. It's very much a dog-eat-dog society in China, and people dare to do anything for money.
However, there is a group of people in China who follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, holding themselves to high standard of morality. They are Falun Dafa practitioners. This is a short story of one of these practitioners.
Ms. Jinlian is a room attendant at a luxury hotel. One of the attendants' tasks is to sell luxury wine to the guests staying in the rooms that they are delegated to. Once the wine bottle is sold, the attendants can keep the box which contained the wine bottle. These boxes all have the original wine label affixed to them.
These wine boxes, with the original label, can be sold to counterfeit wine makers at 10% of the luxury wine's price. On average, one can make 30-50 yuan from each wine box.
There is a trick that every attendant knows. Before delivering the wine to the guests, the package is not opened from the top, because this would ruin the trademark stamp on the top, rather, it is opened from the bottom. The bottom has no label, and can be easily forged. Only such an empty box can be used again for counterfeit wines, and are worth money.
Every attendant in the hotel does it, and knows that everyone else does it. Even the managers are well aware of it, but no one thinks much about it. When Ms. Jinlian started this job, her coworkers told her that this was a way to make extra money.
“Promoting counterfeit wine? Isn't that against the principles of 'Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance?'” she asked herself. But her friends said to her: “Everybody does it, why can't you? Nobody will blame you, and you won't get in trouble.” Ms. Jinlian was reluctant.
She had another concern. If she did not claim the wine boxes, conflicts amongst her coworkers were guaranteed to occur, as they would fight for the boxes.
She later realized that her concerns stemmed from peer pressure. “I shouldn't worry about all these things. I should just follow the Falun Dafa principles and do the right thing,” she told herself.
Ms. Jinlian felt at peace once she set aside her concerns. When her coworkers asked her why she didn't use this way to make money she explained that she practices Falun Dafa, and told them about following its principles.
Her coworkers respected her for her honesty. They also developed a better understanding of Falun Dafa.
Ms. Jinlian never complains about any of the tasks she is assigned. Through her upright conduct, people have naturally come to know that Falun Dafa practitioners are good people, contrary to the propaganda broadcast by the Chinese media.
Her supervisor once said to everybody, “It seems a lot of people nowadays know what Falun Dafa really is, and nobody believes the government's propaganda. The human resources manager once said to me that it would be great if we hired more Falun Dafa practitioners. They never complain about being given tough jobs, and they can work unsupervised. They are honest and friendly.”
Another manager of the hotel once said to Ms. Jinlian: “The communist party slanders Falun Dafa. But we can tell that it is a good practice just by observing you. Your belief is great! You have nothing to worry about, as no persecution will occur to you at this hotel.”
Sometimes when she does the Falun Dafa exercises in an empty room, some of her coworkers follow along to learn the movements.
