(Minghui.org) Ms. Sun Xiqin from Huanan County, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested this January for informing the public about the persecution of Falun Gong. Her defense lawyer argued that it is her constitutional right to believe in and share information about the spiritual practice.
Because she had not broken any law, her lawyer asked that she be released. The authorities denied his request to have her case dismissed, and Ms. Sun remains in Jiamusi Detention Center.
Ms. Sun was arrested on January 25 after being spotted handing out Falun Gong flyers by Ma Changshen, chief of Balang Township Police Station, who happened to be passing by.
The police proceeded to ransack her home and confiscated many of her personal belongings, including a computer, a printer, several cell phones, and Falun Gong books and informational materials.
Li Xiaolin, captain of the domestic security office, interrogated Ms. Sun at Huanan County Police Department until after 10 that night. He submitted her case to the Huanan County Procuratorate on February 5.
Ms. Sun's defense lawyer explained to Li that she was innocent and requested she be released. Li refused to set Ms. Sun free.
The lawyer submitted a written request to the procuratorate, asking that her case be dropped. The procuratorate, however, insisted that her case move forward and that she be prosecuted. It is not clear when the agency will forward the case to the local court.
