Arrested and Tortured
I went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa twice after the persecution began in 1999. I was arrested and tortured. When it was freezing, our coats and shoes were taken away and we were handcuffed to the floor. The guards shocked us with electric batons and forced us to drink alcohol and urine. No matter what we had to endure, we remained steadfast in our belief in Dafa.
I became quite well-known in my local area for what I had endured. People from our local 610 Office attempted to take me to the brainwashing center to "transform" me. Each time the village Party branch secretary stopped them.
He said, “Ms. Xiaoyu is a wonderful daughter-in-law and very respectful. She has to take care of her father-in-law. We can't let you take her.”
610 Office agents later attempted to arrest me secretly, but the secretary found out. He warned me as soon as he found out what they were up to, so I could hide.
Becoming a Practitioner
I heard a lady talking about Falun Dafa in 1997. She said that practitioners follow the principles Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and become good people. Besides, the exercises could keep people fit. After I listened to her, I agreed to go to her home and learn more about the practice.
After I began to practice Dafa my skin became delicate and glowed. I no longer was bothered by migraines, stomach inflammation, or tonsillitis.
I studied the Dafa books and cultivated my xinxing. I worked hard at my job and did every task assigned to me. I no longer pursued self-interest.
Many people saw how I changed, and some began to practice Dafa.
Caring for My Father-in-law
My husband is the youngest of three brothers. After my mother-in-law passed away, the brothers discussed who would take care of my father-in-law but could not come to a decision.
I asked my father-in-law where he wanted to live. He said, “My wife told me 'When we are old, we'll live with Xiaoyu. She is a good-natured person and also very kind.' Now that she is gone, I want to live with your family. What do you think?”
I told him that was a good decision and thanked him. The family was very happy, and my brother-in-law suggested that they contribute 200 yuan for his care each month. Nothing came of that suggestion, but my father-in-law enjoyed the 15 years he lived in our house.
Good Fortune for Supporting Dafa
My husband witnessed how I changed, especially because I became honest, kind, tolerant, and calm. He also read some of the Dafa books and is very supportive.
I got a text message from him about five years ago: “Today is World Falun Dafa Day. Please give my regards to Teacher. Falun Dafa is wonderful!” (Practitioners call the founder of Falun Dafa "Teacher" or "Master.")
Because I was harassed and arrested a few times, he is very concerned. He sees that practitioners are persecuted and that some are still in prison. He truly admires us because we remain steadfast despite brutal suppression.
He tells us to pay attention to security. But, no matter what happens, he will be there for me.
Because he thinks well of Dafa, he has benefited greatly. He has been promoted at work and earns more than others. Once when I used a portion of his income to produce Dafa materials, he said that I could use it without hesitating.
Another practitioner and I were delivering copies of the Nine Commentaries of the Chinese Communist Party and had an accident. We were fine, but the other practitioner's vehicle was totaled. My husband offered to give this practitioner 10,000 yuan, of which she kept 5,000 yuan.
My husband's leg recently started to hurt, and he was diagnosed with osteoarthritis. The doctor suggested he have an operation, but I told him that he should ask Teacher for help. He thought that, because he did not study Dafa, Teacher would not take care of him.
In my heart I knew that Teacher would take care of him because he is so supportive of Dafa. I gave him many examples of people who benefited by reciting “Falun Dafa is wonderful! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is wonderful!” Eventually he believed what I said and recited the phrases. His osteoarthritis no longer bothers him.
