(Minghui.org) At the onset of the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, my husband was the director of the Municipal Committee Office. He was worried about me, because I was planning to go to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, and he had heard that practitioners who did that would be arrested.
He said he didn't want me to go.
Suddenly his heart started to bother him and his blood pressure shot up. I cried and hesitated. But after I calmed down, I decided to go anyway. I told him that he would be fine and left.
He was fine while I was gone and glad when I returned home safely.
Several practitioners and I decided to go to Beijing to appeal again in November 1999. I was relieved because my husband was out of town at the time. But he heard about it, came back right away, and found me at the train station.
He asked me not to go. I told him that I had not asked anything of him during all our years of marriage. But this time I needed his support, because I wanted to petition for justice for Falun Gong. He acquiesced and never stood in my way on this issue after that.
Facing Adversity
I was arrested at Shanhaiguan Train Station and detained for four days. I was then taken to a local detention center in my hometown. The local police chief was sympathetic and released me after two days.
Several local practitioners decided to go to Beijing one more time in June 2000. Two practitioners, co-workers of mine, left a day earlier than planned. The security officers where I worked were alerted and immediately put me and two other practitioners, also co-workers, under house arrest.
The municipal officer put pressure on my husband, so he talked to me. I told him that I would definitely go to Beijing. Shortly after we talked, the two practitioners and I escaped and went to Beijing.
I was arrested in Beijing and went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. I was then taken to a local detention center in my hometown. I was weak when I returned home, but soon regained my health, which was witnessed by many people.
My husband was passed over for promotion because of me. Some of his colleagues advised him to either divorce me or beat me. But he never complained. He told his colleagues that he would rather give up his career than divorce me.
He even asked me to help his colleagues quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliates.
Once he was dining with an official from the 610 Office. He raised his wineglass and told him, “My wife is a Falun Gong practitioner.” The official was flabbergasted and then said that I must have renounced the practice. My husband raised his glass again and said, “My wife is a Falun Gong practitioner.”
