Four Falun Gong Practitioners Illegally Sentenced

(Minghui.org) Four Falun Gong practitioners were illegally sentenced in Lishan District Court in Anshan City on April 16, 2015. Their attorney condemned the fabricated charges.

Mr. Bai Jiurong and Ms. Ma Liyan were each sentenced to six years in prison. Ms. Li Jun was sentenced to four years and Ms. Guan Shujie to three years. They have all appealed.

The practitioners were tried twice before, on December 15 and 26, 2014. Their lawyer stated: “This is a fabricated case. Since practicing Falun Gong violates no laws, arresting and prosecuting practitioners is illegal. Furthermore, officer Liu Zhe breached the law by lying to the practitioner and following them.” The lawyer also pointed out that the Lishan District Procuratorate did not investigate or verify the case, but charged the practitioners with “using a cult to undermine the law enforcement,” an accusation commonly used to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

Prosecutor Chen attempted to intimidate the attorney by threatening to revoke his certificate to practice law.

Arrests

Officer Liu Zhe from the Lishan Domestic Security Division asked Ms. Li Jun for a Shen Yun Performing Arts DVD on July 11, 2014, claiming he wanted to teach his child to dance.

He monitored Ms. Li as well as Ms. Ma and Ms. Guan, who came from Liaoning City to take care of Mr. Bai's paralyzed wife. Officers broke into Mr. Bai's home without any search or arrest documents and arrested the four practitioners.

They were taken to either the Anshan City Women's Detention Center or the No. 1 Detention Center on the evening of July 11, 2014.

Ms. Kou Xiaokun was Mr. Bai's wife. After his arrest, her health deteriorated. She was so traumatized that she couldn't talk or stop crying. Her daughter, a non-practitioner, went to the police station and asked that her father be released so he could go home and take care of his wife. The police responded by locking the daughter in a room and interrogating her.

Because she could not take care of her mother on her own, she had to send her to a nursing home. In the nursing home, Ms. Kou kept weeping. In great distress, she passed away on March 12, 2015.
