Snapshot of Falun Gong Practitioners Whose Copies of Lawsuits Against Jiang Zemin Were Received by Minghui on August 1-2, 2015

(Minghui.org) Many Falun Gong practitioners are now exercising their legal right to sue Jiang Zemin for launching the persecution of Falun Gong and causing them great harm and tremendous suffering during the past 16 years. The momentum of this new wave of lawsuits against the former Chinese dictator is on the rise.

The Minghui website receives copies of criminal complaints against Jiang from many practitioners daily. In this report, we present a snapshot of some of the practitioners whose copies of lawsuits were received by Minghui on August 1-2, 2015.

These lawsuits are mailed to the Supreme People's Court and Supreme People's Procuratorate, which are required to process all criminal complaints filed by citizens, as of a recent ruling by the Supreme People's Court.

Practitioners Repeatedly Arrested; Families Live in Fear

This report features two retired physicians, one government employee, and a clothing factory owner. Both they and their families suffered tremendously during the past 16 years. The practitioners were repeatedly arrested, and their families lived in fear and under intense pressure.

Mr. Yu Ming was sentenced to four years following his arrest in September 2013. His wife and daughter, who were on vacation in the U.S. at the time of his arrest, made the difficult decision to remain in the states for fear of their own safety. They are calling for the U.S. Government and the international community to rescue him.

Mr. He Jinliang's whole family suffered tremendously. He was detained a total of four and half years, and his wife close to a decade. In particular, the couple was arrested one week before their older daughter's wedding. The daughter had to live away from home to avoid arrests, and her younger sister was left home alone fending for herself.

Both physicians, Li Yulan and Liu Ying saw their professional and personal life disturbed by the persecution. Dr. Li had to live away from home for six years, while Dr. Liu lives under constant pressure, not knowing when the next arrest may take place.

Key FactsMr. Yu Ming, 44, had been arrested five times and given forced labor three times. He spent a total of more than eight years in labor camps, where he suffered brutal torture and was on the verge of death several times.

His last arrest happened on September 24, 2013. He was brutally tortured during interrogation. His defense lawyers were blocked from reviewing his case documents. The Shenyang Shenhe District Court sentenced him to four years in prison on May 11, 2015.

Current CircumstancesMr. Yu is currently being detained in the Shenyang City Detention Center. His wife and his daughter are living in the U.S. and trying to rescue him.

Case 2: He Jinliang (何金亮)

Key FactsMr. He's lawsuit covers the persecution facts of his entire family, including his wife and two daughters.

Mr. He's home had been ransacked six times. He had been arrested five times and fired from his job. He was given three years of forced labor after his second arrest in 2001 and suffered brutal torture in the labor camp.

His wife, Ms. Wang Aizhi, was detained while he was serving the forced labor term. The oldest daughter was in college then and the younger daughter, He Mingjun, 8, was left home with no one to care for her. The little girl wandered off to another city. Police searched for her to send her to a juvenile detention center. Her sister, Ms. He Minghui, found her and brought her to her college residence to look after her.

Ms. He Minghui's school gave her the opportunity to take graduate studies in the U.S. When she returned home preparing to leave, she was arrested. She was detained for 18 months because the police mistakenly thought the Minghui website was named after her. The school revoked the offer to study aboard.

Mr. He's family happily prepared for Ms. He Minghui's wedding in January 2009. Police broke into their home the week before the wedding and ransacked the place. Mr. He and his wife were arrested. Mr. He was sentenced to one year in prison.

This was Ms. Wang's fourth arrest. She was sentenced to eight years in prison after 18 months of detention. She was drugged in prison and her mind was not clear. She was released earlier than her term on April 3, 2015.

Ms. He Minghui was forced to leave home to avoid persecution. Her younger sister Ms. He Mingjun, a high school senior, had to leave home and drop out of school.

Ms. Wang's mother-in-law was unable to bear the news of her daughter-in-law's severe sentence. She passed away a day after she heard the news.

Case 3: Li Yulan (李玉兰)

Key FactsMs. Li Yulan, 72, was arrested seven times in the past 16 years. She had to leave home for six years to avoid persecution.

She was given two years of forced labor after she was arrested in July 2000. She suffered brutal torture in the Wulapo Women's Forced Labor Camp. One night three police officers shocked her with four electric batons. She kept falling down while being shocked. They continued the torture until she became incontinent and was unable to talk. She was released a year earlier.

Ms. Li was sentenced to two years in prison term in April 2009, several months after being arrested.

Her family suffered huge financial losses because Ms. Li could not get her full pension. Police kept harassing and monitoring them. Her husband suffered partial dementia from long-term pressure and stress.

Case 4: Ms. Liu Ying (刘英)

Key FactsMs. Liu Ying's entire family—her father Mr. Liu Zhiqiang, her mother Ms. Dong Shuzhen and her brother Liu Honghe, filed a lawsuit jointly. They charged Jiang with depriving them of their right to practice their belief.

The family has benefited tremendously from the practice, but the persecution has made it impossible for them to practice in an open and dignified manner. They live under great pressure and constantly worry someone may report them to the police and jeopardize their safety.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
