(Minghui.org) A former government official from Handan County, Hebei Province, is suing Jiang Zemin for launching the persecution of Falun Gong and fabricating lies about the spiritual practice, especially since the practice's tenets are based on Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
Ms. Li Fengzhen was under police investigation in late 2009 because someone sent an anonymous letter claiming that she planned a self-immolation incident in Beijing.
She wrote in her criminal complaint: “Jiang Zemin and his accomplices plotted and staged the 2001 self-immolation incident in Tiananmen Square and blamed Falun Gong for the injuries and/or deaths of the participants.
“Falun Gong strictly prohibits killing, and no practitioner would ever set themselves on fire. It was extremely evil and ridiculous that someone would try to frame me years after the staged Tiananmen self-immolation incident.”
She holds Jiang responsible for instigating hatred towards Falun Gong and breeding amoral followers that attack practitioners without a single thought that what they are doing is wrong.
She mailed the complaint to the Supreme People's Court and Supreme People's Procuratorate in mid-June and has received confirmation that it was delivered.
Details of Her Case
An anonymous letter was sent to the authorities in Handan City in late 2009, claiming that Ms. Li was going to lead a group of local practitioners to Beijing. The letter claimed that the group intended to commit “self-immolation” in Beijing. Cui Jiangshui, then Party secretary of Handan City, was horrified and ordered an in-depth investigation.
An inspection team was established in the attempt to arrest Ms. Li and other “participating” practitioners. Four officers monitored her home around the clock beginning in early August.
When they broke into Ms. Li's home on August 29 and attempted to take her to the forced labor camp, they found her lying in bed, injured from a car accident.
Officers searched everywhere and confiscated her computer and USB drives. She explained that the Falun Gong principles prohibit killing or suicide, and she would never set herself on fire or encourage anyone else to. She emphasized that she was being framed, but they did not listen and kept harassing her.
Search for Evidence to Frame Her
When the officers could not find any usable evidence, they got hold of Liu Jun, the driver who was responsible for Ms. Li's accident. Liu was worried about his legal liability, so he agreed to cooperate. The police claimed that they would make sure that he was not involved in a legal hassle.
They asked him to review footage from the surveillance camera in Ms. Li's residential area, figuring that he might have seen other practitioners when he was at Ms. Li's home following the accident. They intended to label those who also visited Ms. Li and were identified by Liu as participants in the “self-immolation.”
However, when the officers paid a final visit to the driver, he was a vegetable as a result of another car accident and died soon after. The police eventually gave up and dropped their case against Ms. Li, who learned the above details about the driver from the officers monitoring her.
Ms. Li's husband, a bureau-level cadre, felt he was losing face after their home was ransacked and they were harassed, and he demanded a divorce several times. Her children also turned against her. A fine family was torn apart, causing her great heartache.
Background
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners during the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the 610 Office, on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
