(Minghui.org) Master Li, the founder of Falun Gong, teaches every Falun Gong practitioner to be a good person. I do my best to follow the principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” in conducting myself at home, at work, and in the community.
At Home
I try to always keep in mind, as Master taught us in Zhuan Falun, “we must be good to our parents.” My foster mother, who had lived with us, became bedridden after a severe stroke in 2007. Before she passed away in 2009, I fulfilled my filial duties without complaint every day, including feeding and washing her.
Although I was very busy between my responsibilities at work and at home during those two years, I still studied the Fa and did the exercises regularly. Practicing Falun Gong helped me recover from fatigue and kept me energetic.
My wife supported my cultivation, and never stopped me from giving out Falun Gong materials. She sometimes even bowed to Master with me. Of course, she would lose her temper occasionally. When it happened and I did not handle it well, I would look inside to upgrade my xinxing.
My daughter also believed in Falun Gong. She refused to sign slanderous documents against Dafa in 2001 when she was a middle school student.
Once I was fined more than 10,000 yuan for writing “Falun Dafa is good” on a piece of paper. My daughter comforted her grandmother when she cried over the loss of money, saying that those blessed words were worth more than money.
She also improved her grades. She went from average to the top ten percent of her class, which enabled her to enroll in a well-regarded high school, college, and graduate school. She landed a great job last year right after she graduated.
At Work
In my workplace, everyone knows that I am a practitioner and a hard worker. I have been recognized as a “model worker” three times, and my achievements were written up twice in the company newspaper.
I do not pursue personal gain, but instead follow Dafa's principles. We had a wage increase in 2011, which was performance-driven. Our department was assigned a quota for the least favorable performance category. I said to my supervisor, “Please put me in that category. We practitioners take what others do not want.” Consequently, my monthly wage is now 60 yuan less than other employees.
I have been a material quality inspector at a big company for 11 years. I test the quality of supplied materials and my company's products. Because of the position, many suppliers would try to bribe me with money and gifts. I always declined the offers. Instead, I clarified the facts about Falun Gong to them. Most of them have renounced the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated organizations.
I am just a middle school graduate, but I was selected by the factory chief to work as a laboratory technician in the quality inspection department. I did not fully understand some of the more advanced principles, but Master has opened my wisdom.
One example involved determination of thallus counts in one product during the testing phase. The department head, who majored in chemistry, did not know how to do it, nor did two senior engineers. I was then asked to try it. I got the result within a half hour with help from Master.
On another occasion, I calculated the gradient content in our product and used it to calibrate our gas chromatograph. After that I was always sent out to solve our product quality problems.
In the Community
I once received a 50-yuan counterfeit bill as change from a fruit vendor during a holiday. The vendor admitted that she knew it was counterfeit and offered to exchange it for a genuine one. I declined. “As a Falun Gong practitioner, I cannot do that,” I said. “This fake money may then go to someone else.” I also rejected an offer of a bag of fruit as compensation. I gave her Falun Gong information materials, a Dafa pamphlet, and a DVD.
In 2004, I paid more than 100 yuan to have lights installed in a public restroom. I have maintained the lights since then and pay the monthly electricity cost, as the power was extended out from my house. This gave a positive impression of Falun Gong practitioners to everyone in the neighborhood.
In 2007, the community sanitation department installed a flush toilet, the first in our community, but no one was hired to keep it clean. I volunteered to do it. Everyone praised me, and I asked only that people remember the goodness of Dafa.
A retired military officer had been hostile toward Dafa and had torn down Dafa posters, but he was moved by my actions. He wanted to say some good things about me in a newspaper, but I just told him to remember that Falun Gong practitioners are good people. I have clarified the facts twice at his home since.
On one occasion, I accidentally touched a car while I was biking. The driver claimed that I scratched the paint, although the mark on the car was in fact not caused by me. He asked me to pay 30 yuan for the damage. As a cultivator, I did not argue. I gave him the money and told him to remember that Falun Dafa is good.
On my way home from work one day, I saw a middle-aged man strenuously pushing an agricultural tricycle. His vehicle had run out of gas. I helped him push the tricycle and also clarified the facts to him. I then went home to get a container and bought some gas for him. He said, “Falun Gong practitioners are really good people!” He soon quit the CCP.
