(Minghui.org) I decided to go with my daughter to her art college entrance exam on March 1, 2015, after distributing Falun Dafa informational literature in a nearby residential area. I called a taxi and asked the driver to wait for my daughter, who was taking another exam.
She got done with her exam 10 minutes later than we expected. Another mother and her daughter got into our taxi, but immediately got out after the taxi driver said, “It will be 40 yuan per person, a total of 160 yuan.” I knew that the driver was overcharging us, but I asked him to take us to our destination anyway, because my daughter was already late for her art college exam.
Dafa Standards Resolve the Issue
Halfway to our destination, my daughter heard that the driver wanted to charge us 80 yuan. She got angry and took down his license plate number to report him to the authorities. That scared the driver. I said to my daughter, “Don't do it. It is not easy for this man to make a living. He only wants to earn a little more.” The driver replied, “Exactly, it’s not easy at all! I have two kids.” My daughter refused to listen.
“My child, you should be more considerate of others,” I said. “You should not complain about this or hate him. I should take some of the blame, because I didn't ask how much he would charge. If I had asked him in the beginning and he told me, then we could have taken another taxi. He also had to wait a long time for you.”
My daughter gradually calmed down. The driver suddenly said, “You are a different kind of mother—you are kind, generous, and tolerant, and know how to educate your child.”
“That is because the child’s grandmother practices Falun Dafa,” I said. “I've also read the Dafa books, so I view things and solve problems differently.”
The taxi driver was surprised that people still practiced Falun Dafa, so I said, “It seems you do not know what Falun Dafa is. What was said on television by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is false. Dafa teaches people to practice Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. It is really good, and our family has benefited from it!”
I told him more about the practice as he drove us to our destination. Surprisingly, the driver asked for only 60 yuan and said, “I hope your daughter gets good grades.”
Although I did not have enough time to ask him to quit the Chinese Communist Party, I hope that, through my behavior and what I said about Dafa, he will have a new understanding of the practice. I also hope that he will meet another practitioner who will help him quit the Party.
It is inevitable that we encounter unpleasant things in our cultivation. When dealing with these issues, however, we should keep in mind Master’s teaching of looking inward, and always live by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
