(Minghui.org) Mr. Liu Xiaohui from Liaoning Province was tried and sentenced to four years in prison on November 20, 2015, on the charge of “utilizing a cult organization to sabotage law enforcement.” The authorities did not allow his family to visit him in detention and did not notify them of the trial or his sentence until a few days ago, when it was too late to appeal the verdict and sentence.
Mr. Liu, 63, is retired from Diaobingshan City's Steel and Coal Corporation. He was arrested from home on July 22, 2015, by the Diaobingshan City police. His home was ransacked, and many personal belongings were confiscated without proper documentation, including Falun Gong books and materials, a mobile phone, 2,000 yuan in cash, a printer, a laminating machine, an external hard drive, and printing paper.
Zhang Fenglai, captain of the domestic security team, initially told Mr. Liu's fellow practitioners that he had been arrested for filing a lawsuit against Jiang Zemin. But Zhang later claimed that the police had found anti-CCP slogans handwritten on the currency bills confiscated from Mr. Liu's home and changed the charge against him.
The city Procuratorate officially indicted Mr. Liu, who is a Falun Gong practitioner, and filed the case with the court on September 16, 2015. Without his family present or any legal representation at his trial, Mr. Liu defended himself by telling the court that Falun Gong was not a cult and that it had taught him to be honest and conscientious.
