(Minghui.org) A Tangshan City resident was sentenced to 4 years in prison for trying to hold former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin responsible for ordering the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in her past detentions.
Ms. Chai Junxia was arrested on December 14, 2015, months after she mailed in her criminal complaint against Jiang to the Supreme People’s Procuratorate.
She was tried on June 13, 2016. The prosecutor alleged that she was a “repeat offender” because she had been arrested numerous times in the past for refusing to renounce Falun Gong and was once given a 4-year jail sentence in 2008.
Her lawyer argued that no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong and that his client’s past incarcerations were a result of the groundless persecution.
The judge sentenced Ms. Chai to 4 years in prison and fined her 4,000 yuan on October 10. She is appealing the guilty verdict at Tangshan City First Detention Center, where she has been held captive since her arrest. She is currently suffering from a chronic stomachache.
Stomachache Misdiagnosed
Ms. Chai began to experience stomachaches about two weeks after her court appearance. One doctor at the detention center said she needed more nutrition and offered no medical attention. As the pain didn’t subside, the detention center began to give her medication starting in July.
Nothing seemed to help, so Ms. Chai made a request on November 20 to seek outside medical treatment.
The detention center denied her request and had another in-house doctor examine her. This doctor diagnosed her with a stomach ailment and prescribed some pills. Her pain, however, worsened. The doctor checked her again and re-diagnosed her with peptic ulcer disease. He only prescribed painkillers.
Ms. Chai’s pain got worse with each passing day. She recently put in another request to seek outside medical attention. She hasn’t heard from the detention center at the time of writing.
Background
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
