Xinjiang Woman Sues Former Chinese Leader for Five Years of Imprisonment and Torture for Her Faith

March 23, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Xinjiang Autonomous Region

(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Yanhong from Kashi City, Xinjiang Autonomous Region, filed a criminal complaint against former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin on August 17, 2015, and mailed it to the Supreme People's Court.

She detailed in her complaint five years of incarceration for refusing the communist authorities' demands to renounce her faith in Falun Gong, as well as the suffering of her family members as a result of the regime's suppression campaign.

Below are excerpts from Ms. Wang's personal account of mistreatment detailed in her complaint to the court.

Physical and Verbal Abuse

Two friends and I were passing out information about Falun Gong on September 10, 2005. We were arrested, our homes were ransacked, and we were interrogated and detained in the Yuepuhu Detention Center. However, I did not receive my arrest warrant until October 14, 2005. My employer suspended my salary. I was tried on December 23 and sentenced to five years in prison on April 4, 2006.

I was transferred to the Xinjiang Woman's Prison on May 8, 2006. To “transform” me, the guards forced me to watch a propaganda video attacking Falun Gong. Also, guards and inmates physically and verbally abused me. I was subjected to forced labor starting in January 2007, from 9:00 a.m. to midnight and often until 2:00 a.m.

The intense forced labor ruined my health, and my hair turned completely white, though I was only in my 40s. During the annual “legal education” month, I was forced to undergo brainwashing.

Thorough Medical Examinations

When I arrived at the prison, I was given a thorough physical examination, which included a blood sample and taking my blood pressure. They also noted my medical history.

Then, other practitioners held in my division and I were put through another physical examination in April 2007, which included not just blood work, but also a chest x-ray and collecting a detailed family history.

Only after I learned about the [government's] harvesting of organs from living practitioners did I realize why I went through such thorough examinations back then.

Family's Ordeal

My release date was in September 2010. Once home, I was harassed by officers from the local police station, residential committee, and Domestic Security Division.

The persecution alienated my husband and me. His worry and concern turned into resentment.

When I was incarcerated, my son was only 12 years old. He was abused in school because I practiced Falun Gong. Once he finished middle school, he refused to go to high school.

My mother became deeply depressed after I was imprisoned, She could not stop crying and could not understand that such an obedient, kind, and considerate daughter was imprisoned. She passed away while I was incarcerated.

After mother passed away, my father's health declined. Shortly after I was released, he suffered a major stroke.

Reason for Practicing Falun Gong

After I began to practice Falun Gong, my illnesses disappeared, and I no longer caught colds or came down with the flu. I became energetic and improved in my work performance. Most importantly, my family life became harmonious.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator. The law also allows people to file reporting criminal cases without need of using true names.

Over 200,000 Falun Gong practitioners and their family members have filed criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin with the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Supreme People's Court since the end of May 2015. Many practitioners also encourage people to join the effort to report Jiang's crimes and stop the persecution.
