73-Year-Old Again Sentenced to Prison for Posting Falun Gong Information

(Minghui.org) Mr. Hua Wanlai, 73, was sentenced to a one-and-a-half-year prison term in Beijing on February 17, 2016.

Mr. Hua lives in Chenzhuangzi Village, Dahuashan Town, Pinggu District, Beijing. He was reported to police on July 13, 2015, when he posted stickers about suing Jiang Zemin on telephone poles in Zhang Town, Shunyi District in Bejing. He was soon illegally arrested by police from the Zhang Town Police Station.

Officers from the Zhang Town Police Station and the Dahuashan Town Police Station searched his home and took CDs, copies of Falun Gong materials, and MP3 players.

When the elderly man was sent to the Shunyi District Detention Center, the medical examination indicated that he had serious physical problems. Mr. Hua was then transferred to the Beijing Police Hospital, where he was detained for 37 days. He was bailed out on August 18 for medical treatment. However, after he was released, he was threatened and harassed.

Mr. Hua was officially sued in the Shunyi District Procuratorate on November 25, and the prosecutor assigned to his case was Wang Penglei. On February 17, 2016, he was illegally sentenced to one-and-a-half years in prison and fined 2,000 yuan.

In early March, officials said the court would implement the sentence if he passed the physical examination.

Mr. Hua's Story

Mr. Hua had multiple diseases including high blood pressure, heart problems, and sciatica before he started to practice Falun Gong. He was unable to do anything too laborious and depended on his wife for nearly everything. Yet his wife was not in good health, either. When his son was sentenced to a long prison term for theft, his life was at its lowest point.

After he started to practice Falun Gong, however, Mr. Hua recovered from his illnesses, no longer needed to take any medicine, and no longer felt tired. He understood things from a different perspective and felt less pain on the matter of his son. He followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and tried to be a good person. His wife also began practicing.

When Jiang Zemin started the persecution of Falun Gong, the couple faced prolonged persecution. Mr. Hua was subjected to forced labor twice, detained in a detention center twice, and sent to a brainwashing center once. He was sent to a forced labor camp in November 2002 and released in November 2004. He was again subjected to two-and-a-half years of forced labor in June 2005.

His wife, Ms. Zhang Guizhi, was subjected to forced labor once, detained in a detention center twice, and sent to a brainwashing center once. While they were in detention, the couple was forced to do hard labor, alongside with facing the barage of insults and mistreatment from prisoners and guards.
