(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 9 cities or counties in 6 provinces. According to this report, 4 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, at least 9 were illegally arrested, and the whereabouts of 1 are unknown.
Ms. Zheng Baohua had been taken twice to labor camps and held in custody several times. Additionally, she had been displaced for several years because of harassment by police. Her health deteriorated recently and she died on October 14, 2015, at the age of 44.
She went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in 1999. She was arrested and taken back to her home town. She was detained for 15 days in the Fusong County Detention Center and guards extorted 500 yuan before her release.
In 2000, she was given one year of forced labor. In 2001, she was again sentenced to one year of forced labor.
Her residential registration was canceled by the Lushuihe Police Station.
She was arrested by officers from the Yanji City Domestic Security Division in 2004. She was tortured and went on hunger strike for over 10 days. She was released for health reasons.
Ms. Zheng was arrested again at home in 2007, and tortured in a police station in Helong City. She went on a hunger strike and was force-fed with salt water and sugar water for 15 days. She became emaciated, mentally disoriented and had problems with her eye sight, among other health problems. She could not take care of herself. The police released her on medical parole.
She became unconscious in the early morning of October 13, 2015 and passed away on the evening of October 14, 2015.
Ms. Yang Yurong was arrested for distributing Shen Yun DVDs in downtown Binzhou City in August 2015. She was held in the Binzhou City Detention Center.
She was secretly sentenced to three-years-and-three-months in the Shandong Women's Prison by the Bincheng District Court.
Mr. Wang Ping was arrested by officers from the Huimin County Domestic Security Division in mid-January 2016.
Mr. Yang Huizhou was arrested at home by officers from the Yucaijie Police Station in Chang'an District on November 29, 2013. His home was ransacked.
The Qiaoxi District Court sentenced him to five years in prison on August 14, 2015. He appealed but the intermediate court upheld the original sentence. He was taken to the Jidong Prison in Tangshan City on January 12, 2016.
Ms. Li Guilan and Ms. Xing Chunjuan, from Qianshabazi Village, Gaotuan Town, Fushan District, were arrested by officers from the Zhanggezhuang Town Police Station for distributing Falun Gong informational materials on the morning of February 17, 2016. Both practitioners are held in the Yantai City Detention Center.
Mr. Li Kai from Lulong County was secretly sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison on September 7, 2015. He was taken to the Jidong Prison in Tangshan City.
Mr. Li suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and lost consciousness in early December 2015. He was taken to the Tangshan Workers Hospital for emergency care. Mr. Li passed away at the end of January 2016. The Jidong Prison paid his family between 10,000 and 20,000 yuan in restitution.
Mr. Zhang Xiuhong was arrested on February 17, 2016. His whereabouts are unknown.
Mr. Jiang Kun, Ms. Chu Fengwen, and non-practitioner Mr. Tai Hongbin were arrested by officers from the Longwang Police Station for distributing Falun Gong materials in Dakuangying Village on February 11, 2016. They were held in the Nong'an County Detention Center for 15 days.
Ms. Liang Yunying from the Guanzhuang Oilfield was arrested by officers from the Youtian Police Department on February 18, 2016. The officers ransacked her home and confiscated a photo of the founder of Falun Gong and Falun Gong books.
Officers from the Longjing Police Station demanded that Ms. Xia Weixian from Baiyun District come to the police station on February 16, 2016. They arrested and held her for 15 days.
