Additional Persecution News from China – June 8, 2016 (17 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 15 cities or counties in 11 provinces. According to this report, 3 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 31 practitioners were illegally arrested.

1. [Tieling City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wu Yuping and Ms. Wang Ying Detained

Ms. Wu Yuping and Ms. Wang Ying were arrested on May 30, 2016. Both were detained for 30 days.

2. [Nanyang City, Henan Province] Three Practitioners Detained

Since May 2016, Mr. Wang Hongying, Mr. Li Wenhai, Mr. Zhang Qingxue and other practitioners from Sheqi County have been arrested or detained for suing Jiang Zemin, the former Chinese Communist Party leader who initiated the persecution of Falun Gong. Mr. Wang Mr. Li, and Mr. Zhang remain in custody.

3. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhang Xiujiuan and Ms. Lun Shuhui Arrested

Ms. Zhang Xiujuan and Ms. Lun Shuhui from Guzhi District were arrested on June 6, 2016 and taken to the Luan County Police Department, by officers from the Yangliuzhuang Police Station. Ms. Zhang has returned home. Ms. Lun remains in custody at the Luan County Police Department.

4. [Jining City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhan Lihua and Husband Ms. Liu Xinhua Arrested

Ms. Zhan Lihua, from Jining City, Shandong Province, was monitored when she was talking to people about Falun Gong in Fuyang District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, on June 2, 2016. She and her husband Mr. Liu Xinhua were arrested by officers from the Fuyang District Domestic Security Division and the Chengxi Police Station in Fuyang District. Their home was ransacked. The couple was taken to the Chengxi Police Station.

Ms. Zhan was later taken to the Fuyang District Detention Center. The detention center refused to admit Mr. Liu for health reasons. The police extorted 20,000 yuan and released him on bail. After returning home, he has remained under police surveillance.

5. [Benxi City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Yang Haiping Detained

Mr. Yang Haiping was arrested by officers from the Nandi Police Station at noon on May 27, 2016. His wife was also arrested and taken to the Benxi City Detention Center. His wife has returned home, but he remains in the detention center.

6. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Four Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Zhao Guizhen, Ms. Sun Yanzhi, Ms. Guo Yunfang, and Mr. Dai Yonghong from Fengrun District were arrested by officers from the Yangliuzhuang Police Station in Luan County when they were talking to people about Falun Gong in the Yangliuzhuang Town Farmers Market on the morning of June 6, 2016. The police interrogated them and took blood samples. Mr. Zhao was released that afternoon. The other three practitioners were taken to a detention center. Mr. Dai's car was confiscated.

7. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Zhou Lianhong Taken to Brainwashing Center

Ms. Zhou Lianhong from the Xinzhou District was arrested by officers from the Wulhan Police Department on May 23, 2016. She was detained for 15 days. She has been transferred to the Liuji Brainwashing Center in the Xinzhou District.

8. [Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia] Three Practitioners Tried

Mr. Xu Dianlin, Ms. Zhang Yuefang, and Ms. Pan Lijun have been punished for exercising their rights to seek justice against Jiang Zemin for launching the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in their past detentions.

Mr. Xu Dianlin and his wife Ms. Zhang Yuefang were arrested in late September 2015. The police released them on bail after the detention center declined to admit them due to their health conditions. The elderly couple was tried on May 25 this year. It was recently learned that Mr. Xu was sentenced to five years and Ms. Zhang to four years in prison.

Ms. Pan Lijun was tried ten days earlier than the couple. Her husband had to drop the lawyer, after being threatened by the police. When she tried to testify for herself she was interrupted by the court officials.

Ms. Pan remains detained following her arrest on October 18, 2015.

9. [Lanzhou City, Gansu Province] Four Practitioners Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Tu Yuchun, Ms. Jiao Lili, Ms. Meng Yurong, and Ms. Du Shuzhen were arrested in September 2014, and sentenced to prison in December 2015. They all filed appeals, but the local higher court upheld the verdicts without holding hearings.

The four women's families went to the detention center in May 2016, but were told they had been moved to prison days earlier.

Ms. Tu's and Ms. Du's families next went to the prison to see them. The guards threatened to revoke their visitation rights if the two women still refused to give up practicing Falun Gong.

Ms. Tu and Ms. Jiao are serving 8 years, Ms. Meng 5 years, and Ms. Du 3.5 years. They have been transferred to Gansu Province Women's Prison.

10. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Two Practitioners Tried

Ms. Chen Jinxiu and her sister Ms. Chen Xiuju remain detained following their arrests on December 7, 2015. Ms. Chen Xiuju's son has been petitioning for the release of his mother and aunt.

11. [Shifang City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Chen Rongfang Transferred to Prison

Ms. Chen Rongfang was transferred to Sichuan Province Women's Prison on May 11, 2016, and she appeared emaciated and looked very tired. Her husband's visit with her on May 27 was cut off after only eight minutes. He didn't get to ask what had happened to her during her brief imprisonment there.

Ms. Chen was arrested on May 14, 2015, for distributing information about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was sentenced to a three-year prison term on December 3, 2015.

12. [Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province] Three Practitioners Filed Appeals

Mr. Jin Fuwan, Ms. Deng Yue'e, and Mr. Li Baoxing were arrested on August 20, 2015, and tried on April 12, 2016. The judge announced the verdict a few days later, sentencing Mr. Jin to 3 years, Ms. Deng to 3.5 years, and Mr. Li to 4 years in prison.

They remain detained at Zhangjiajie City Detention Center. They have filed appeals against their sentences.

13. [Zunyi, Guizhou Province] Ms. He Tianfen Allowed to Do Falun Gong Exercises

Ms. He Tianfen is now allowed to do Falun Gong exercises at Zunyi Second Detention Center. The guards once did everything possible to stop her from doing the exercises, but they relented after she went on a hunger strike to protest.

Ms. He was arrested on February 3, 2016, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. The Procuratorate approved her arrest on March 7, but returned her case to the police on June 3, citing insufficient evidence.

When her lawyer met her for the second time in early June, she asked him to tell her family and friends that she will never renounce Falun Gong as she did nothing wrong by exercising her rights to freedom of belief.

14. [Tianjin] Ms. Song Huichan Sentenced to Three-Year Imprisonment

The Tanggu Court recently sentenced Ms. Song Huichan to a three-year prison term. Her family received the lawyer’s call on the sentence on June 2, 2016.

Ms. Song was arrested in March 2015, and tried on December 3, 2015.

15. [Tianjin] Mr. Wang Changshou Sentenced

Mr. Wang Changshou’s family learned on June 1, 2016 that he had been sentenced to a 3.5-year prison term. Mr. Wang was tried three times prior to the sentence.

16. [Hengshui City, Hebei Province] Mr. Zhang Jinsheng Sentenced

Mr. Zhang Jinsheng from Gucheng County, Hengshui was sentenced on May 27, 2016. He has filed an appeal. As a result of torture, he cannot walk, stand, or take care of himself.

17. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Qingdao Intermediate’s Court Upheld Ms. Li Xue’s Original Sentenced

Ms. Li Xue was sentenced to a ten-year prison term in late 2015. She appealed to the Qingdao Intermediate’s Court.

Her lawyer went to the court to inquire about her case status on May 12, 2016. He was told that the court had closed Ms. Li’s appeal case. The court didn’t notify the lawyer or the family. It didn’t even set a hearing session, but just issued a document saying, “The appeal was rejected and the original sentence upheld.”
