(Minghui.org) A 47-year-old woman from Fushun City was arrested again for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. The authorities are threatening to sentence her to prison.
Ms. Zhang Wenqing is a music teacher at Fushun City Wushi Middle School. She was most recently arrested on June 7 after being reported to police for talking to people about Falun Gong.
The police raided her home that evening and confiscated her computer, printer, DVDs, and other valuables. They then sent her to Fushun City First Detention Center (also known to locals as Nangou Detention Center).
Her parents visited her on June 12 and were told that she was given 15 days of administrative detention. The elderly couple was relieved to know that their daughter was set to be released on June 22.
Just hours later, however, the couple was summoned to the local police station to pick up their daughter’s detention warrant. They were shocked that Ms. Zhang had been placed under criminal detention, instead.
They questioned the sudden change in her detention status, and the police chief warned them that Ms. Zhang is facing prison for her practice of Falun Gong. He added that no more family visits would be allowed from that point on.
Ms. Zhang’s latest detention is preceded by two prior arrests months earlier.
She was first arrested on September 8, 2015. Three officers showed up at her office and dragged her downstairs when she refused to be taken away. As a result, the skin on her left ankle was broken, and her wrists and hips were badly bruised.
The police interrogated her for eight hours straight before releasing her later that night.
Ms. Zhang was taken into custody again two months later on November 10. The police didn’t set her free until she had served 15 days of administrative detention.
