(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Xia and Mr. Sun Jun from Dalian, Liaoning Province, were each sentenced to more than seven years in prison. The sentence was handed down last month after the couple had been detained for 18 months since their arrest in March 2016.
Ms. Zhang teaches at Qingyun Elementary School in Zhongshan District of Dalian. After she filed a lawsuit against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin, police from the Dalian City Domestic Security Division and Minzhu Square Police Station arrested her on March 15, 2016. They also ransacked her home and confiscated her computer and Falun Gong books on the same day.
When her husband went to the Mingzhu Square Police Station two days later to inquire about his wife, he was immediately arrested.
The Zhongshan District Police Department approved their arrests on April 21, 2016. They were both detained in the Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian. Ms. Zhang embarked on a hunger strike and soon became weak. When the family came to the detention center to pay for the couple’s prison expenses, they were not allowed to meet with them.
The couple was later tried in secret. Ms. Zhang was sentenced to seven years and five months in prison, and Mr. Sun was given seven years and two months. They were transferred to the prison at the end of September 2017.
