(Minghui.org) A Falun Gong practitioner in Benxi, Liaoning Province has been detained for over six months after her recent arrest for talking to the public about the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong. Her trial is scheduled for July 19.
Ms. Zhou Yuyan, 75, was posting Falun Gong materials and talking to people in a district in Manchu Autonomous County with another practitioner, Ms. Zhang Xianqin, when they were both arrested. The police confiscated Falun Gong books and materials and went to search Ms. Zhou’s home, where they confiscated many Falun Gong books and materials.
They were released on bail the same day, but the police attempted to fabricate evidence against the two women and sent it to the procuratorate. The police later withdrew Ms. Zhang's case, while Ms. Zhou is scheduled to be tried on July 19. After communicating with her lawyer, the authorities agreed not to use the personal belongings that were taken from Ms. Zhou's home as evidence.
This was not the first time that Ms. Zhou has been arrested for raising awareness of the persecution of Falun Gong. She was sentenced to six years of imprisonment in September 2001.
