(Minghui.org) 75-year-old Ms. Zhou Yuyan was tried in Benxi County Court on August 24, 2017, for talking to the public about the persecution of her spiritual belief, Falun Gong. Her lawyer pled not-guilty on her behalf.
Ms. Zhou also defended herself. When she challenged the evidence listed by the prosecutor, saying it was “not true,” the judge adjourned the trial.
Ms. Zhou's lawyer noticed that Ms. Zhou was trembling, her hand pressed against her heart, and that she had tears on her face.
Before the lawyer got the chance to speak to Ms. Zhou, the bailiff took her away.
However, Ms. Zhou's son unexpectedly fired the lawyer after the trial, probably due to pressure from the authorities.
Ms. Zhou was arrested on November 2, 2016, while posting information and talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. The police searched her and ransacked her home, taking away all of her Falun Gong materials.
The procuratorate returned her case three times to the police, citing insufficient evidence. A trial was originally scheduled for July 19, 2017, but was later postponed to August 24, 2017.
