(Minghui.org) I woke up to the sound of beautiful music one day in June 1999. It was coming from the neighbor’s house. It lasted until I finished my morning chores and made me feel peaceful. My husband asked me why I seemed so happy and I encouraged him to listen to the music too.
My neighbor told me that it was Falun Dafa music and explained that Falun Dafa had recently been banned by the government.
It was said that Jiang Zemin, the former head of the communist regime, prohibited people from practicing Falun Dafa. A year later, the staged self-immolation incident was shown on television to slander the practice.
I did not believe the distorted media coverage. I knew many practitioners and they were all nice people. I told my colleagues that I wanted to find Zhuan Falun, the main book of Falun Dafa, and find out for myself what it was all about.
I talked to a villager who told me that he recovered from his illnesses after practicing Falun Dafa. I asked him for the book and he loaned me a copy.
I began to read the book on April 19, 2002, and did not stop until 5:00 a.m. I learned from the book to be kind to others, do my job properly, always think of others first, and take a step back during conflicts. I agreed with everything I read.
While I read the book, my husband avoided me. He looked in from the doorway, but would not enter the room. He did not understand my fascination with the book.
Every day after dinner I continued to read the book. My husband did not approve. He would curse at me or hit me. His behavior toward me disturbed my oldest daughter and one day she intervened and prevented him from striking me. He did not know what to say and left the house.
When I had the chance, I told him that Dafa was a wonderful cultivation practice. Jiang’s regime launched the persecution and fabricated the staged “self-immolation” incident, cases of committing suicide, and much more, to incite hatred towards Falun Dafa. My husband insisted that whatever the government said was right. He continued to beat me and swear at me on a regular basis.
One day in the kitchen he picked up a knife and threatened me with it. I remained calm. I knew I was doing the right thing and he could not hurt me.
He rushed toward me with the knife but tripped and fell on the floor. I helped him get up and he was then calm.
When I distributed informational materials about Falun Dafa in June 2015, I was reported to the police. Four domestic security agents arrested me and took me to the police department. I was sentenced to one year in a labor camp.
Guards in the labor camp made me stand for extended periods of time and forced me to watch television shows defaming Dafa.
While detained, my husband took up with a woman who was a former classmate. She sympathized with him and helped take care of our family.
I came home and found out about his affair. I told him: “She has a husband and son. What are you thinking? And her husband has many brothers, and they could band together and beat you up.” My husband was speechless.
Shortly after he asked if we could invite her to have lunch with us. I agreed. I arrived home and saw them making dumplings, so I joined in. I thanked her for taking care of my children and husband when I was detained. I was friendly and we had a pleasant conversation.
After lunch, I was about to return to work. She made no move to leave and asked my husband to go shopping with her.
Then my husband said no to her and slammed the car keys on the table. She started to leave. I apologized to her for my husband's behavior before she reached her car. When I came back in I told him he had been rude. He replied: “Shame on her!”
I forgave him. From this incident, he knew that he did wrong, and Dafa had changed me to be broad-minded, and not to argue.
After I began to cultivate, out of concern for my husband who has a good appetite, I would rush home from work to fix dinner. I had a small business to take care of, with a lot on my plate, but I took care of everything while my husband played video games.
I took good care of him and our home and never complained. Eventually his attitude toward me improved. He was doing business out of town for a while. He handled it well and never burdened the family. He had changed. One day he even told me he could support me if I did not want to work anymore.
When I was not at home, he would burn incense in front of the portrait of Falun Dafa’s teacher for me. He also knows to be a good person by holding himself to the standards of Dafa.
One night when the apartment above us was being renovated, they forgot to turn off the faucet. Water flooded our kitchen and living room. When the owners of the apartment saw that our home was flooded, they apologized and wanted to compensate us. To my surprise, my husband told them not to worry about it and that we could take care of it ourselves.
The people from upstairs replied, “You are so kind. Anyone else would have taken our money without hesitation.”
My husband told me about the incident and I said, “You did the right thing. They did not do it on purpose. If we do good things, we will be rewarded.” We both smiled.
I will strive forward and work at being a good example to others – being unselfish and having high morals.
