(Minghui.org) A Bazhou City resident was sentenced to 2 years in prison for distributing information exposing the Chinese communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong, a mind-body practice based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
Mr. Wang Yushen was arrested on August 18, 2017, and has been in the Bazhou City Detention Center ever since. His wife wrote letters to the local authorities, urging them to release her husband. She shared his story in the letters.
Mr. Wang was a lazy husband in the past and only smoked, drank, and gambled. He developed severe stomach problems due to his unhealthy habits and often vomited. Fortunately, he came across Falun Gong and regained his health. What impressed his wife most was that he quit smoking, drinking, and gambling. She said, “Falun Gong is so amazing! My miserable life has finally come to an end!”
Mr. Wang, however, was repeatedly arrested for holding firm to his faith. His latest arrest was preceded by six prior arrests. He was once given 18 months of forced labor and brutally tortured. By the time he was released, he had late-stage stomach cancer. His wife was getting ready for his funeral, but he recovered by doing the Falun Gong exercises.
Mr. Wang's wife called for his immediate release, but the local authorities proceeded to prosecute him.
Mr. Wang appeared in court on March 30, 2018. His lawyer entered a not guilty plea for him, as no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong. Mr. Wang also testified in his own defense and argued that he should never have been prosecuted for telling people that Falun Gong was nothing like what was depicted by the state propaganda.
Judge Wu Shengli convicted Mr. Wang a few days after the hearing.
