(Minghui.org) Ms. Fan Wenxiu, who was imprisoned for her faith in Falun Gong, suffered a recurrence of cancer while imprisoned for four months. She was not allowed to do the Falun Gong exercises during this time.
Ms. Fan, from Yueyang City in Hunan Province, began practicing Falun Gong in 2014 after undergoing surgery to remove a malignant tumor in her stomach. Her health soon improved after she started practicing.
Ms. Fan was arrested in September 2017 while distributing Falun Gong informational materials. She was tried and sentenced to a three-and-half-year prison term in February 2018, and was later taken to the Changsha Women's Prison.
Her family went to the prison several times to visit her, but were always denied access. Even her lawyer was unable to meet with her.
Ms. Fan's sister received a telephone call on July 12, 2018, informing her that Ms. Fan was ill. The caller asked her to go and see Ms. Fan in prison. However, other family members were still not allowed to visit her.
The sister found that Ms. Fan was emaciated and that her cancer had resurfaced. The prison hospital reportedly found several large tumors in her stomach.
Ms. Fan's brother and sisters went to various legal departments to request that she be released on medical grounds, but all requests were refused.
Her family appealed to various local judicial organizations, and the case was accepted by the Junshan District Procuratorate in Yueyang City.
