(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 13 cities or counties in 5 provinces, where at least 28 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Shenzhou City, Hebei Province] Several Practitioners Arrested

The homes of Mr. Gen Shen, Ms. Yan Ju, Mr. Han Lin, Mr. Dong Zhan and his wife, were ransacked on the morning of January 9, 2019, in Xiyangtai Village, Donganzhuang Township. Printers, computers, and Falun Gong books were confiscated from Mr. Dong's home.

Mr. Dai Pengpeng's home was ransacked that afternoon. A poem was torn off the door. Mr. Dong and Mr. Dai were taken to the Shenzhou City Detention Center. Mr. Dong's wife were detained for 15 days in the Shenzhou City Jail.

Officers from the Donganzhuang Police Station and Shenzhou Domestic Security Division ransacked Mr. Kang Cong's home on January 10, 2019, and confiscated Falun Gong books. The homes of Ms. Zhang Lingshang and Ms. Meng Xiugeng were ransacked around the same time.

2. [Shanghai] Ms. Zhou Qian Detained for a Year

Ms. Zhou Qian, from the Minhang District, was arrested by officers from the Weifang Police Station on the morning of January 10, 2018, when she was working in her office in the British owned Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.

Ms. Zhou has already been detained for a year in the Pudong Detention Center.

3. [Weihai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhang Yingmiao Taken Into Custody

Ms. Zhang Yingmiao was arrested by officers from the Wendeng District Domestic Security Division and Zhangjiachan Town Police Station on the morning of January 10, 2019. She is being held in the Zhangjiachan Police Station.

4. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Ms. Wei Chunrong Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Wei Chunrong from Huanan County, Heilongjiang Province, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison by the Jimo District Court in Qingdao City. She has since appealed.

5. [Baoji City, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Xue Lulian Beaten by Police

Ms. Xue Lulian from Jiangtan Road in the Weibin District, Baoji City, was arrested by officers from the Zhouyuan Police Station on January 3, 2019, after someone reported her to police.

Ms. Xue was interrogated at the police station, but she refused to cooperate. Police beat her so severely that she lost consciousness. The officers poured cold water over her until she came to, then took her to the emergency room.

The following day, the police transferred Ms. Xue to the Baoji City No. 2 Detention Center, where she was held for seven days.

6. [Tianjin] Ms. Liu Rehan Formally Arrested

Ms. Liu Rehan, from the Hebei District, was arrested on December 3, 2018. She was formally arrested on January 9, 2019, and is being held in the Hebei Detention Center.

7. [Xinji City, Hebei Province] Ms. Yan Yan Sentenced

Ms. Yan Yan from Xinji City was arrested by the Yunan Province police when she took her children on vacation in Lijiang City, Yunnan, in the summer of 2018. She was tried and sentenced in Lijiang.

8. [Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Xu Wenlong and Mr. Zhang Zuojun Tortured in Qiqihar Prison

Mr. Xu Wenlong from Muling City was taken to the Qiqihar Prison on October 31, 2018. While incarcerated in the no. 2 ward, he refused to do forced labor, and continued to practice the Falun Gong exercises. Guards instigated inmates to beat him with electric batons and forced him to swallow hot pepper water. His head smashed against a heater and he was taken to the prison hospital. The guards later put him in solitary confinement for two weeks and then he was under 'strict control' management for a month.

Mr. Zhang Zuojun, from the Jiguan District in Jixi City, was taken the No. 3 ward of Qiqihar Prison in November, 2018. He refused to do forced labor, and was brutally beaten by lead inmate Cui Xiaoguang.

9. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Zhang Lifeng and Ms. Wang Yabin Arrested

Ms. Zhang Lifeng, from the Nangang District, was arrested on the afternoon of January 10, 2019, and her Falun Gong books were confiscated.

Ms. Wang Yabin was arrested on the same day.

10. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Zhang Shude Transferred to Dongling Prison

Mr. Zhang Shude, from the Shuangcheng District, was transferred from Nanshan Prison in Jinzhou City to Dongling Prison in Shenyang City on December 27, 2018.

11. [Zunhua City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhu Caiyan Detained

Ms. Zhu Caiyan was arrested on December 25, 2018, for distributing Falun Gong calendars. She was taken to the Zunhua Domestic Security Division for interrogation, and was detained for 15 days. Police demanded that her family pay a 1,000 yuan fine and 200 yuan for food expenses, but they refused.

12. [Gaobeidian City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhang Bianrong Detained

Mr. Zhang Bianrong was arrested at home by officers from the Gaobeidian City Domestic Security Division on January 7, 2019. His residence was ransacked, and an MP3 player, MP4 player, and other personal belongings were confiscated.

Mr. Zhang failed the physical examination five times, but the police still sent him to a detention center. However, he was released after he fainted in the detention center's restroom.

13. [Shenzhou City, Hebei Province] Mr. Zheng Zangzhen and Ms. Yan Fang's Homes Ransacked

Mr. Zheng Zangzhen, from Shicaowei Village in Donganzhuang Township, was arrested on January 10, 2019. Police ransacked his home.

Ms. Yan Fang's home in Gaozhaoquan Village, Taigu Township, was also ransacked by police the same day.

14. [Baoji City, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Tang Hongmei and Ms. Xue Lulian Arrested

Ms. Tang Hongmei and Ms. Xue Lulian, from the Weibin District, were arrested on the afternoon of January 3, 2019, for talking to people in Zhouyuan about the persecution of Falun Gong. They were taken to the Zhouyuan Police Station in the Chencang District, and transferred to the Jintai District Detention Center the following day.

Ms. Tang was released after she failed the physical exam.

15. [Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Song Guixiang Detained

Ms. Song Guixiang was reported to the authorities when she was seen talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was arrested by officers from the Jinshan Police Station on the morning of January 8, 2019.

Ms. Song was subjected to seven days of administrative detention.

16. [Chongqing] Mr. Wu Rongfei and His Wife Ms. Wang Mei Arrested

Mr. Wu Rongfei and his wife, Ms. Wang Mei, from Qingxichang Town, were arrested by officers from the Domestic Security Division in early May 2017, for telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong on WeChat, a popular Chinese social media platform. Their home was ransacked.

Ms. Wang was later released, while Mr. Wu is due to be tried.
