(Minghui.org) A Qingdao City, Shandong Province resident remains disoriented months after she finished serving time for her faith in Falun Gong. She told her family that she had been given psychotropic drugs on a regular basis while imprisoned.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since July 1999.
Ms. Liu Guixiu, 59, was arrested together with Ms. Zhan Shuzhen, 57, and Ms. Xue Yunxiu, 71, on February 3, 2016 after they were reported for talking to people about Falun Gong.
Ms. Xue was released hours later, while the other two women were later indicted. Ms. Liu was released on bail on June 1, 2016 after she developed some medical problems.
Ms. Liu and Ms. Zhan appeared in court on January 19, 2017. They testified in their own defense and argued that they broke no law by spreading information about Falun Gong.
Ms. Liu returned home after the hearing, and Ms. Zhan remained in detention. On March 30, 2017, Ms. Zhan was also released on bail.
Ms. Liu was sentenced to 1.5 years in mid-November 2017. She was taken back into custody and sent to Pudong Detention Center. On January 9, 2018, she was transferred to Shandong Province Women's Prison, where she was given psychotropic drugs on a regular basis.
Ms. Liu was released on January 17, 2019. Several months have since passed, but she still remains dizzy and disoriented.
Ms. Liu is not the only Falun Gong practitioner who had been subjected to psychotropic abuse at Shandong Province Women's Prison.
According to insiders, every imprisoned practitioner had fabricated medical records written in their files stating that they had a family history of mental disorder. The practitioners were then given drugs that led to hallucinations, memory loss, fatigue, anxiety, and/or psychosis. The prison would then force them to take more medication to treat their “symptoms.” It was a vicious cycle, and many practitioners' conditions quickly deteriorated.
Ms. Wang Haohong, a resident of Zhaoyuan City, was sentenced to seven years in 2009 and brutally tortured in Shandong Province Women’s Prison. She was also given unknown drugs. Six months after she was released, she suddenly developed severe symptoms and died on June 16, 2017. Her family recalled that she had a very good memory before her imprisonment, but she could barely remember anything after years of being given unknown drugs.
Ms. Liu Zhimei of Laiyang City was once a bright student with big dreams, but she never got a chance to finish college due to the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong. She was expelled from Tsinghua University at the age of 21 because she refused to give up her belief in Falun Gong. She served six years in Shandong Province Women's Prison, where she was repeatedly drugged.
Three days before her release in 2008, she was given an unknown injection which her family suspected to be the direct cause of her subsequent long-lasting psychotic symptoms. She fell into a well in February 2015 and died.
