(Minghui.org) A Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province resident was seized during a mass arrest of Falun Gong practitioners in November 2018. He stood trial on June 12, 2019 and is now awaiting the verdict.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual tradition that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Liu Enxi, 66, was arrested at home by a dozen officers on November 9, 2018. The police ransacked his residence and confiscated his Falun Gong books and related materials. Another 118 practitioners in both Harbin (the capital city of Heilongjiang Province) and Daqing were arrested on the same day.
When Mr. Liu's wife asked the police why they arrested him, the officers said that he had too many things at home.
Mr. Liu was taken to Longgang Police Station before being put on criminal detention at Daqing City Detention Center, where he has been held since.
The Ranghulu District Procuratorate approved his arrested in mid-December 2018. The prosecutor indicted him on March 29, 2019 and submitted his case to Ranghulu District Court.
Mr. Liu appeared in court on June 12, 2019. His lawyer entered a not guilty plea for him.
The prosecution's evidence included items confiscated from Mr. Liu's home, but none of the items was presented in court. Mr. Liu testified that the officers never provided him with a confiscation list and that he couldn't verify if all the items listed as evidence against him were actually his.
The lawyer also refuted that no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong or labels it a cult. He also said that while the prosecutor charged his client with “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” he didn't specify what law's enforcement was undermined or how it was undermined.
Both Mr. Liu and his lawyer demanded his acquittal. The judge adjourned the hearing without responding to their request.
