(Minghui.org) Ms. Yang Deying, a 71-year-old native of Pingqiao Village, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, dares not return to her rental apartment. Two officers have been stationed outside the apartment every day since March 23, 2020. They had told her neighbors to be on the lookout for her, and even offered a reward to anyone who reported her whereabouts.
Ms. Yang's ordeal started on February 1, 2020 when she went to a nearby village to pass out information about Falun Gong, a spiritual practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese government since July 1999. A woman reported her to the police. Ms. Yang was taken to Haikou Town Police Station. Two officers from the Domestic Security Office were called in to interrogate her. One of them told Ms. Yang that they had tried to arrest her in September the previous year. Because she was not at her then apartment in Haikou Town at the time, they arrested another practitioner.
Later, the two officers from the Domestic Security Office wanted Ms. Yang to sign the interrogation record and Ms. Yang refused.
Police from Haikou Town Police Station wanted to take Ms. Yang's fingerprints and blood for testing. They told Ms. Yang that she would be released if she cooperated with them.
Later that evening, her son was notified to pick her up at Jinniu Police Station, but he declined and said that there was no room for her at his home. At Jinniu Police Station, an officer interrogated Ms. Yang for over an hour. Finally, the police sent Ms. Yang to her son's home.
Knowing that she would be monitored, Ms. Yang left her son's home and went into hiding in Kunming City.
Past Persecution
Ms. Yang has been incarcerated three times for a total of eight years for her faith in the past two decades.
She was given two years at Yunnan Women's Forced Labor Camp in 2005, for writing the words “Falun Dafa is Good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is Good” on pieces of paper.
In May 2008, Ms. Yang was arrested and taken to the No. 1 Detention Center of Panlong District. She was tried almost a year later and sentenced to three years to No. 2 Women's Prison of Yunnan. While incarcerated, she was tortured for refusing to give up her faith. Two inmates were assigned to monitor her around the clock. She was forced to sit on a small stool without moving for 15 hours a day, which resulted in her buttocks festering and bleeding. She returned home on May 19, 2011.
She was arrested again on September 19, 2012 for distributing Falun Gong materials. After one year of detention at the Guandu District Detention Center, she was sentenced to another three years to the No. 2 Women's Prison of Yunnan by the Kunming City Intermediate Court.
