(Minghui.org) A Maoming City, Guangdong Province resident is facing trial for his faith in Falun Gong, an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Mr. Pan Peide, 64, was arrested at home on September 16, 2019 by officers pretending to be delivery personnel. They ransacked his home and confiscated dozens of Falun Gong books and fliers.
It was reported that the Maoming 610 Office, an extra-legal agency created specifically to persecute Falun Gong, had been monitoring Mr. Pan since April 2019.
In early January 2020, the police submitted Mr. Pan’s case to Maonan District Procuratorate, which blocked his lawyer from reviewing his case document.
The prosecutor, Gao Jinsheng, indicted Mr. Pan in late February 2020 and forwarded his case to Maonan District Court.
Mr. Pan’s lawyer asked to meet with Ke Xuejun, the presiding judge in charge of the case. Ke refused the lawyer’s request, with the excuse that the epidemic wasn’t over yet.
On March 13, 2020, Mr. Pan’s lawyer visited him at Maoming City No.1 Detention Center, where he has been held for over six months. Mr. Pan said that the rashes he had in previous months due to the poor living conditions in the detention center have mostly recovered.
