(Minghui.org) A 78-year-old woman in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province is facing prosecution for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Hu Yulian, a retired employee of Daqing Oilfield living on her own, was harassed twice by the police around mid-November 2021. She refused to open the door for them but tried to clarify the facts about Falun Gong. They didn’t listen and left.
The police deceived Ms. Hu into opening the door on November 19, by having her son knock on the door. They took Ms. Hu for a physical examination and sent her home, saying that they would come back the next day for lunch.
When the police returned on the next day, they said the coronavirus molecular test she did the day before failed. They deceived her into going with them for another test, only to take her to the Dumeng Detention Center.
The police initially told Ms. Hu’s family that she would be detained for ten days. But they refused to release her when the ten-day detention expired. She is now facing prosecution after the Ranghulu District Procuratorate approved her arrest on November 29.
Ms. Hu’s ordeal stemmed from a group arrest of Falun Gong practitioners in Daqing on November 22, 2020. Over 20 practitioners were later confirmed to be arrested on that day and three of them have been sentenced to prison.
Ms. Hu was arrested at home on the afternoon of November 22. Her three hand-copied Zhuan Falun (the main text of Falun Gong), a laptop and a printer were confiscated.
The police took her to the hospital for a physical examination and interrogated her at the Donghu Police Station, which didn’t have the jurisdiction of her residence. She was kept there overnight.
The police continued to order her to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong the next day, as she refused to comply the day before, and also tried to have her children persuade her.
Terrified by the police, her son wrote a renouncing statement on her behalf and she was forced to sign it. The police said to her back then, “Given your advanced age, we won’t sentence you.”
Ms. Hu was released on bail in the afternoon and her family paid a 20,000 yuan bond and a 100 yuan examination fee.
The police asked her children to take her to the police station on December 4, 2020 and ordered her to recognize Falun Gong practitioners from 12 photos. She refused to comply but was allowed to go home.
