Additional Persecution News from China – May 5, 2021 (20 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 20 cities or counties in 9provinces, where at least 28 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Wang Meihong Sentenced

Ms. Wang Meihong, a senior engineer, had a virtual court hearing on March 31, 2021. The Daoli Court sentenced her to four years in prison.

2. [Huainan City, Anhui Province] Ms. Chen Honglan and Ms. Chen Shaoqin Sentenced

Ms. Chen Honglan of Shou County was arrested by officers from the Shuangqiao Town Police Station on May 17, 2020 for distributing Falun Gong flyers. Police ransacked her home and confiscated her computer, printers, and other items. She was sentenced to 18 months in prison. While she was imprisoned her stomach bled and she was admitted to a hospital. The guards did not allow her family to visit her.

Ms. Chen Shaoqin of Shou County was arrested in early October 2020 after someone reported her when she used paper currency with Falun Gong messages printed on them. She was sentenced to three-and-a-half-years in prison.

3. [Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province] Chen Duofen Missing for a Year

Chen Duofen (gender unknown) has been missing for a year since Chen was arrested on May 16, 2020.

4. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Sun Lijuan and Mr. Zhang Baoguo Detained, Detention Prolonged

Ms. Sun Lijuan of Jinzhou City and her husband, Mr. Zhang Baoguo, were arrested at home by officers from the Jiefangqu Domestic Security Division, Jiaozuo City, Henan Province and the Juyuan Police Station, Jinzhou City on April 25, 2021. Ms. Sun was taken away by the Jiaozuo City police on April 28. She is being held at the Jiaozuo City Detention Center. Mr. Zhang is being held at the Jinzhou City Detention Center.

The Juyuan Police Station first said that Mr. Zhang would be released on May 3. When his family contacted them on May 2, they said the detention was prolonged to 30 days and he would not be released because it was a criminal detention.

5. [Xintai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Ren Zhifeng Arrested

Elderly Ms. Ren Zhifeng was arrested at home by head Feng Dayong and others from the Xintai City Domestic Security Division on the morning of April 19, 2021. They ransacked the place and seized dozens of Falun Gong books, several players, Falun Gong materials, and other items. She was taken to the Xinwen Police Station and was released to her son in the afternoon.

6. [Siping City, Jilin Province] Mr. Li Jianhui Sentenced

Mr. Li Jianhui of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region was formally arrested on November 6, 2019, and incarcerated in the Siping Detention Center, Jilin Province. Li was sentenced to three or four years in prison several months ago and was taken to prison at the end of April 2021.

7. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Jiang Wei Held in Mental Hospital

The daughter of Ms. Jiang Wei received a call from the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison. She was told Ms. Jiang was taken to a mental hospital for “treatment.”

8. [Zhengzhou City, Henan Province] Bai Liping Detained Beyond Time Limit

Bai Liping (gender unknown) was arrested and detained beyond the time limit of 15 days. Details are unknown.

9. [Qixia City, Shandong Province] Ms. Jia Shumei Detained

Ms. Jia Shumei, in her 50s, of Qixia City was arrested for talking to shoppers in a grocery market about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was staying with her son in Jinan City to take care of her newborn grandchild. She was held in the Zhonggong Detention Center, Jinan City, for more than 20 days.

10. [Panjin City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhou Guilan Repeatedly Harassed

Ms. Zhou Guilan was harassed at home by five clerks from her community on April 13, 2021. They demanded she sign a statement renouncing Falun Gong. She refused.

The clerks came back to her home on April 14 and 23. They called her older son and grandson on April 29. They threatened her grandson that he would have trouble applying for jobs or civil service positions if she did not sign.

11. [Shanghai] Ms. Dai Baohe’s Fingerprints and Blood Samples Taken by Force

Six officers from the Ganquan Police Station went to Ms. Dai Baohe’s home on the morning of April 29, 2021. No one was at home. They left a message with her neighbor. They said they wanted her to come to the police station in the afternoon, and they would look for her every day until they found her. She went to the police station at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon. Even though she tried hard to reason with them, they took her fingerprints and blood sample by force. 

12. [Tancheng County, Shandong Province] Mr. Wang Mingcai Arrested

Mr. Wang Mingcai, in his 70s, was arrested by officers from the Honghua Police Station in April 2021 when he was distributing Falun Gong flyers. He was released after the officers extorted 20,000 yuan from him.

13. [Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Chen Guoqing Harassed

Mr. Chen Guoqing works in the former Mudanjiang Farmland Bureau Center Hospital. Four officers from the Beidaying Police Station showed up at his workplace on the morning of April 27, 2021 and ordered him to go home with them and be photographed. He replied he was too busy to leave because many patients were waiting. The officers left. But they came back in the afternoon, took him home and photographed him. They said they were following orders, that it was not their choice.

14. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Practitioners Harassed

Mr. Zhang Ying’s wife received a call from the Donghuan Police Station in mid-April 2021. The caller ordered Mr. Zhang and his son, Mr. Zhang Haibin, to report to the police station and sign documents renouncing Falun Gong. She refused to have them do so.

Mr. Liu Yuting received a call from the Donghuan Police Station in April 22, 2021. He was ordered to sign a document renouncing Falun Gong at the police station. He refused.

Ms. Bai Lanzhen received a call from her residential committee. She was ordered to sign a document renouncing Falun Gong at the committee office. She refused.

15. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ren Lingyun Detained

Ren Lingyun (gender unknown) was arrested at the security checkpoint in the Changchun Station by officers from the Zhanqian Police Station on May 3, 2021. Ren was detained for five days.

16. [Chongqing] Ms. Liu Guibi Arrested, Her Family Harassed

Ms. Liu Guibi of Shuitu Town, 79, was arrested on March 12, 2021. Her family was harassed on April 26 by two officers from the Shuitu Town Police Station and the Fuxing Town Police Station. The officers questioned them as to how news of her arrest came to be posted on foreign websites. The family said they did not know.

17. [Yingkou City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Han Guiyun Arrested

Ms. Han Guiyun, 85, was arrested at the end of April 2021. Officers from the Xishi District Domestic Security Division and the Wutaizi Police Station, and clerks from the Xianghe Community tried to incarcerate her in the Yingkou City Detention Center. The detention center guards refused to admit her because her blood pressure was too high. She was released.

18. [Jingzhou City, Hubei Province] Four Arrested Practitioners Transferred to Detention Center 

Deng Yongmei, Liu Xin’an, Qiu Yunfeng, and Wang Meiqing were transferred from the Zhijiang Monitor Center to the Dangyang Detention Center on April 28, 2021. The police are still holding their car and are charging a parking fee of 100 yuan per day.

19. [Yantai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Sun Shufeng Harassed

Ms. Sun Shufeng’s home was ransacked by officers from the Domestic Security Division and the East Village Police Station on April 28, 2021. The officers confiscated a set of Falun Gong books, several copies of Zhuan Falun, and a picture of the founder of Falun Gong. They ordered her to sign a paper renouncing Falun Gong. She refused. They tried to take her away but when she had difficulty walking, they stopped.

20. [Beijing] Mr. Ke Xingguo Arrested

Mr. Ke Xingguo was arrested at home. It was suspected that several plainclothes officers were watching his bungalow. Because his wife is not able to take care of herself, the community sent a housemaid to look after her as well as monitor the place.
