(Minghui.org) A Jilin City, Jilin Province resident was admitted to Jilin Province Women’s Prison on June 4, 2021, to serve a one-and-a-half-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
When Ms. Wu Zhirong’s family went to the prison to visit her, the guards denied their request and said Ms. Wu had been placed under strict management for not renouncing Falun Gong.
Ms. Wu, a 69-year-old retired elementary school teacher, was arrested on March 19, 2020, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong in a village. While she was soon released on bail, officers of the Xinbei Police Station submitted her case to the Chuanying District Procuratorate, which then indicted her and moved her case to the Chuanying District Court.
Ms. Wu was summoned twice to the court, on November 5 and December 23, respectively. She refused to plead guilty. The judge ordered her arrested during her second court appearance in December. She was taken back into custody at the Jilin City Detention Center on the same day. Later, the judge secretly sentenced her to one and a half years in prison.
Prior to her latest sentence, Ms. Wu was arrested on March 2, 2006, after being reported by a parent for talking to her students about Falun Gong. She was given one year of forced labor.
Ms. Wu was arrested again on July 13, 2018, and held at the Jilin City Detention Center for two months.
