(Minghui.org) A Huizhou City, Guangdong Province resident in serious condition has had his bail request denied three times by the police.
The police broke into Mr. Zhao Tianhua’s home through his neighbor’s place on May 11, 2021. Both Mr. Zhao and his wife, Ms. Cai, were arrested for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Four other local practitioners who have been providing private tutoring to the couple’s child were also arrested on the same day and had their Falun Gong books confiscated. The four practitioners were Ms. Peng, Mr. Chen Hualiang, Ms. Wang Lifei, and Mr. Lian Yueguang.
While Ms. Peng, Ms. Wang, and Ms. Cai were released after 37 days of detention, the other three practitioners remain in the Boluo County Detention Center and had their arrests approved.
The police initially charged the practitioners with engaging in “illegal business.” As they couldn’t find enough evidence to support the charge, they changed it to “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” the standard pretext used to criminalize Falun Gong practitioners. The Falun Gong books confiscated from the practitioners were then used as prosecution evidence against them.
During several months of detention, Mr. Zhao suffered declining health (the exact condition isn’t clear) and was hospitalized. His family applied three times to have him released on bail for medical treatment, but their requests were repeatedly denied by the police, even after the detention center guards also suggested not to keep him in custody any longer.
