(Minghui.org) It was recently confirmed by Minghui.org that a 78-year-old woman in Siping City, Jilin Province was sentenced to three years in September 2020 for practicing Falun Gong. Ms. Cheng Zhichun is now incarcerated at the Jilin Province Women’s Prison and ordered to renounce Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Cheng was arrested on March 9, 2020, by officers of Renxing Police Station for mailing letters to the public about Falun Gong. Due to the pandemic, the police didn’t hold her in custody and released her.
The Tiexi District Procuratorate approved her arrest on September 17, 2020. She was soon sentenced to three years and taken to prison in October. She was already very weak by then. Due to mental and physical abuse in the prison, she is now unable to walk.
Prior to Ms. Cheng’s latest arrest, she served one year of forced labor and two prison terms for a total of seven years. She was released in 2018 from the previous term, only to be arrested and sentenced again two years later.
Since the persecution started in 1999, the Jilin Province Women’s Prison has been notorious for its abuse of Falun Gong practitioners. Every practitioner taken here would first be forced to watch propaganda videos slandering Falun Gong. If they refused, guards would force them to sit on a tiny stool with a piece of paper placed between their legs. If they moved or the paper fell off, the inmates assigned to watch them would beat them.
