(Minghui.org) Six residents of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, have been detained for over three months for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Li Yun was first arrested on April 25, 2021, by Guihu Police Station officers as she returned home after work. Her home was ransacked.
Ms. Liu Guohua, Ms. Xie Shiying, Ms. Zhou Yuxiu, and Mr. Huang Huaizhou and his wife Ms. Zhang Xunju were arrested at around 6 a.m. on May 12, 2021, by officers from the Guihu Police Station, Xindu Police Station, Guilin Police Station, Banzhuyuan Police Station, and the Xindu District Domestic Security Office. The police smashed the practitioners’ locks and broke in.
The police confiscated an old computer from Ms. Liu and are asking for 240,000 yuan from Ms. Liu’s family in exchange for her release.
It’s not the first time that the police in Chengdu have extorted funds from practitioners’ families. A few months earlier, an elderly practitioner’s family was forced to pay 60,000 yuan to the police before their loved one was released.
All six practitioners have been detained since.
The police also ransacked the homes of Mr. Su Qinghua and his mother on the same morning of May 12. They tied his mother in a chair while they searched her home. Mr. Su and his younger brother, who doesn’t practice Falun Gong, were both arrested. Because Mr. Su’s father was bedridden and needs intensive care, the police didn’t take Mr. Su’s mother away.
Mr. Su and his brother were released around early July. Three other practitioners, including 70-year-old Mr. Peng Shangen, Ms. Lin Xiaoquan, and Ms. Liu Senrong, who were arrested on May 12, have also been released.
